Day 1: Arrive in Lhasa, get the first impression of Tibet.
Highlights: Spectacular scenery and typical Tibetan villages along the way. Take morning flight to Lhasa, upon arrival, be greeted by local guide at airport and be presented with traditional Tibetan White Scarf to wish you good luck! After group photo at airport, board on the coach and transfer back to hotel, you will enjoy the spectacular scenery and the typical Tibetan villages on the way. Stay at the hotel after arrival for adapting to the high attitude. It is helpful to take things easy for the first few days, and try to drink some water just and now.
Day 2: Lhasa Highlights (B).
Highlights: Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street, Sera Monastery. Start the morning from a close touch with Jokhang, the center of the Tibetan Buddhism and the sacred land of Buddhist followers where innumerable pilgrims come for worship everyday. Then you could explore the bustling markets of the Barkhor and watch the locals as they prostrate around the Jokhang Temple. After lunch, drive to the edge of the town, have a little hike for the beautiful valley scenery nearby Sera Monastery before catch the famous debate sessions of the monks in Sera monastery, which was created in 1419 and has always been an important Buddhist seminary.
Day 3: Lhasa Highlights (B).
Highlights: Potala Palace & half day free time. Today we go to the Potala Palace, a golden feather upon the roof of the world, which Tibetans proudly claim to be the prime miracle since the creation of this world. The rest of today is your free time, you can travel around the city by yourself or get into the roadside Tibetan souvenir workshops to pick up your favorite stuff. Or join in one of our two free activities to enjoy the time, one is enjoy Tibetan afternoon tea in a local tea house and visiting Dickey Orphanage nearby, the other is invited to delve in the glorious culture of Tibet in Tibet Museum. The driver and tour guide will take you to one of the two places but you need to get back to hotel by yourself.
Day 4: Lhasa/Gyantse/Shigatse (B).
Highlights: Yamdrok Yumtso Lake, Pelkor Monastery and Kumbum Stupa. After fully explore Lhasa, you’ll have a chance to get lost in the endless Tibetan landscape while you take a short hike along the turquoise waters of Lake Yamdrok, one of the three holy lakes in Tibet and the largest habitat of waterfowls in south Tibet. Afterwards pass by the 5,010 m high Karo La and the Simi La forward to Gyantse (approx. 3.950 m). Visit Pelkor Monastery as well as the splendid Kumbum Stupa (100-Thousand-Buddha Pagoda) nearby, both of them built in the15th century and situated in the northwestern edge of Gyantse. In the afternoon drive about 90 kilometers to Shigatse (3880 m), the second largest city with 40,000 inhabitants in Tibet and the traditional capital of the Tsang.
Day 5: Shigatse to Rongbuk Monastery (B).
Highlights: Tashilumpo Monastery, then drive from Shigatse to Shegar, then continue to Rongbuk Monastery. Start the morning with a visit to Tashilumpo Monastery in Shigatse. Then continue to drive westwards the Friendship way to Rongbuk. On the road the drive is full of magnificent scenery and cross some extremely high passes including Gyatsola (5248 m). The road to Everest diverts off the newly paved Friendship highway near the town of Shegar and turns into bumpy gravel trail, which is still 90 km to get to Rongpuk. If it is in clear whether, you can have a glimpse of 4 mountains which is 8000 m high or more, such as: Mt. Lhotse(8516 m),Mt. Everest(8848 m), Mt. Qowowuyag(8201 m), Mt Mayalu(8463 m).
Day 6: Snake down to Zhangmu (B).
Highlights: Sunrise in Everest, then drive to Zhangmu. Get up early for sunrise. You could take the local bus to arrive at Everest Base camp for half an hour, or you also can have a hike to Base Camp around 1.5-2 hours one way. It's interesting and much warmer, but hard to breath. The morning is frigid and as the wind howl your fingers must be frozen trying to take pictures of the iconic mountain but it is worth the pain to view such an amazing site. Then in the afternoon around 1:00 pm go down from E.B.C back to Shegar, and continue go west to Zhangmu. The road snaked ever downward. After a few switchbacks you will find yourselves in a lush ravine with waterfalls bursting from the mountains on all sides and flowing to a raging river far below.
Day 7: See you off at Nepalese Border (B).
Highlights: finish the tour at the border, cross the bridge to Nepal side yourselves. Our Guide will drop you off in the morning at the border bridge, You are kindly required to hike on your own to cross the border bridge which is 50 m long, then check in Nepal side, you can get the Nepal visa upon arrival with US$ 30, please prepare one photo at passport size to get Nepal Visa. Next step, you need to find a car or bus towards Kathmandu, 50 m ahead from border bridge, dozens of car or bus are parking here to pick up travelers; 3,000 Nepali Rupee for a taxi rental to Kathmandu (around US$ 50), 50 Nepali Rupee(around US$ 1) for a bus seat. Tour ends at the border in Tibet side.
