Heralding this wonderful Brazil - Neotropical Mammals of the Amazon & Pantanal safari adventure is our stay in the Amazon Rainforest, where we will spend time exploring the towering forests of one of Earth's most diverse natural regions. With this in mind, we have selected an area that offers some of the very best wildlife viewing possibilities, where 20 kms of well maintained trails pass through a variety of habitats, exposing us to the wonders and mystery of this giant and superb ecosystem. In addition, a 50m high platform will afford us intimate encounters with the otherwise hidden world of the rainforest canopy. Here we will search for bellowing Red and Red-handed Howler Monkeys, White-bellied Spider Monkey, Dusky Titi Monkey, Common Squirrel-Monkey, Brown Capuchin Monkey, regal White-nosed Bearded Saki Monkey, lethargic Brown-throated Three-toed and Southern Two-toed Sloths, and Guianan Squirrel.
Nocturnal outings here will allow us the opportunity for thrilling encounters with many night-time creatures otherwise next to impossible to see. These include Feline Night Monkey, Kinkajou or Sugar Bear, Common and White-eared Opossums, Oscillated Poorwill, Blackbanded and Crested Owls, the sleek Ocelot, striking Emerald Tree Boa and numerous frogs, spiders, hawk moths, fireflies and even luminescent forest fungi!

In stark contrast to the towering forests of the Amazon are the vast open spaces and breathtaking vistas of the Pantanal. This is the planet's largest wetland and is home to some of the most spectacular concentrations of wildlife on Earth. A seemingly endless mix of backwaters, lakes, rivers, gallery forests and forested islands, this immensely diverse ecosystem supports in excess of 600 fish species, 650 bird species and a staggering 200 species of mammals. Included amongst this suit is our primary target animal of this adventure, the awesome Jaguar! While we stand chances for observing this secretive species in the Amazon, the Panatanal affords us our best opportunity for sightings of this, the world's most powerful feline. Other exciting mammals we can expect to see are herds of comical looking Capybaras, Marsh Deer and family groups of Giant River Otters, one of the world's rarest otter species.

In the evening, night drives here may produce the delightful Crab-eating Fox and Crab-eating Raccoon, opossums, Giant Anteater, Southern Tamandua, further chances for Jaguar, as well as smaller felines such as the beautifully patterned Ocelot, the seldom seen Margay and Jaguarundi. Shining a spotlight under a fruiting tree could even reward us with a rare Brazilian Tapir sighting!
