Day1 Welcome to Rome... the Circus Maximus, the Colosseum and more
Meals D
Tour begins: 4:00 PM at Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel & Spa. Your Italy family vacation begins with an included transfer from Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino, Ciampino Airport or Roma Termini train station to Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel & Spa. You'll feel like royalty at Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel & Spa, a deluxe hotel overlooking the Villa Borghese park. Start your family's explorations with a guided overview of Rome's Circus Maximus, Palatine Hill, Piazza Venezia and the Carcalla Baths, and continue with a visit to the famous Colosseum, the place for all sorts of “entertainment” in ancient Rome; here, 55,000 amusement-seeking Roman residents watched gladiators battle, chariots race, and ships engage in mock sea battles when the arena was flooded! Join us this evening for a welcome reception and dinner at a fabulous local restaurant – the perfect introduction to the great food you'll find on Italy family vacation.

Day2 Gladiator school, amazing catacombs and after-hours at the Vatican Museums
Meals B, D
First up today, learn about ancient Rome's political life when you view its hub, the Roman Forum, from above, then head out along the famous Appian Way to Gladiator School, for a fun introduction to ancient Roman history and a lesson in combat, gladiator style. Play ancient detective on a visit to the Catacombs of St. Callistus, a complex series of underground tunnels deep beneath the city. These catacombs have been used for many different things throughout many centuries, and are sort of an ancient art gallery decorated with frescoes, sculptures, inscriptions – even graffiti; of particular interest are the secret signs and symbols that revealed ideas of the day. After lunch on your own and an afternoon spent as you please, enjoy a Exclusive – an after-hours visit to the Vatican Museums (subject to availability; the day of visit may vary). Nothing compares to the special bond you'll feel with your family today as – without having to push your way past a massive crowd blocking your view – you'll have a chance to explore the Candelabra Gallery, the Map Gallery and the Tapestries, and the Sistine Chapel... together! Look up at Michelangelo's amazing Sistine Chapel ceiling in relative silence; without the noisy crowds, you'll find out that the floor is just as impressive as the ceiling, and truly appreciate all you're seeing... a once-in-a-lifetime Italy family vacation experience!

Day3 St. Peter's, the Pantheon and three coins in the Trevi Fountain
Meals B, L
Today you'll visit one of the world's most recognizable places of worship, St. Peter's Basilica, and famous St. Peter's Square. Take a walking tour to the Pantheon, Piazza Navona with its beautiful Fountain of the Four Rivers by Bernini, and the famous Trevi Fountain; it’s said that you’re sure to return to Rome if you turn your back to the fountain and throw three coins into it over your left shoulder... while wishing very hard! After lunch at a local restaurant near Piazza Navona, spend the rest of the day as you please with your family in remarkable Roma.

Day4 From poignant Pompeii to pizza making and more in the countryside
Meals B, L, D
Your Italy family vacation continues as you travel from Rome to Naples through the Italian countryside via high-speed train, then on to Pompeii – totally buried by tons of pumice and hot ash when volcanic Mount Vesuvius blew its top on August 24th in 79 AD. The city slept hidden under that “blanket” until it was rediscovered in 1748; today, its streets are much like they were before the volcano erupted, and it almost seems as if the residents have just stepped away for a minute – offering a glimpse of what daily life was like in the 1st century AD. Continue on to Sorrento, nestled between the mountains and the sea, with great views of Vesuvius and the Gulf of Naples. Visit a family farm or agriturismo to find out how cheese, olive oil and other tasty treats are made. Then, try your hand at using that cheese as a professional chef shows you how to make your own pizza for dinner. Find out what Neapolitan music is all about and work off that pizza as you learn to do the toe-tapping Tarantella!

Day5 To the Isle of Capri by jet boat, touring by convertible and on to Sorrento
Meals B, L
Italy family vacation takes you across the Gulf of Naples by high-speed jet boat to the enchanting Isle of Capri. Just like a jet-setter, take a fabulous ride in a private convertible along the cliffs of the road to Anacapri, ending in the town. A funicular (chairlift) takes you to the highest point of the island to get a good look at the beautiful Gulf and the town below. After lunch in the town of Capri, and some free time, take the funicular down to the pier to catch your jet boat back to Sorrento. From your Executive Room at the Hilton Sorrento Palace you'll be able to look out at the Gulf of Naples and, in the distance, the infamous Mount Vesuvius. Later, you can join your Director for a walk through Sorrento’s medieval maze of narrow, cobbled streets with overhanging balconies and terraces; stop to enjoy a special treat at a local gelataria and see how gelato is made – with a tasting, of course – before spending the rest of the evening with your family as you please.

Day6 Explore Amalfi – a dramatic drive, Positano, a cruise and a farewell barbecue
Meals B, D
If you like roller coasters, you’ll love the drive along the Amalfi Coast today! The road seems to sometimes go straight up, sometimes straight down and careens around sharp corners at the edge of the cliffs. Take a walking tour in Positano, a cool town that seems to be holding on to its cliff-side perch for dear life, before climbing aboard a boat bound for Amalfi to look up at the cliffs of the Amalfi Coast now above you. In lovely Amalfi, you’ll have time to check out the sights along the maze of winding streets. They have been making paper in this old medieval town since the 12th century – and you have an opportunity today to visit the Museum of Paper Making and see it for yourself. Your Italy family vacation concludes back in Sorrento tonight with a barbecue farewell dinner – and we're certain that you’ll now be glad that you tossed that coin into the Trevi Fountain!
