Hop in a horse cart to look around Bagan’s villages and temples, seeing the beautiful sunset from an elevated temple. Explore Bagan further the next day with a trip to a busy market where Bagan residents do their shopping. Continue to nearby villages to see how the local delicacy, plum jam is produced. Torch in hand, explore the cave temple of Kyan Sitthar, with old paintings on the ceiling and tunnel-like corridors. Next, visit Ananda Temple, filled with mysterious smiling Buddhas. Take lunch at a riverside restaurant before visiting a family of unique star tortoises at a special sanctuary. Head to a beautiful mountain resort; a perfect place to relax. Visit the famous nat shrine of Mount Popa, dedicated to the worship of the 37 animist spirits known as ‘Nats’. On the way up see strange and interesting statues, as well as a community of mountain-dwelling monkeys. Drive on to a local village where people make a range of products using the juice of the palm tree. See the farmers climb the trees to collect the juice. Guide oxen here as they grind corn, and enjoy lunch prepared by a local family. Late in the afternoon, cruise to a riverside village and meet with villagers in a typical riverside community.
