Madagascar is often referred to as the “Eighth Continent” and its exceptional fauna and flora have
evolved over millions of years of isolation. This legendary uniqueness is nowhere reflected better; than in
its birds, and the island hosts no less than five endemic bird families (the Ground Rollers, Cuckoo Roller,
Mesites, Malagasy Warblers and Vangas)! But the wonder of Madagascar extends well beyond its
avifauna, and seeing and photographing the amazing lemurs will also be a major focus of this tour.
However, we do not neglect the colourful chameleons and fascinating flora of this appropriately named
“laboratory of evolution”. Virtually every plant and animal on the island is endemic; but sadly, most are
threatened by continued habitat destruction, thus making Madagascar one of those “must-visit-soon”
destinations.

Berenty:

 “Dancing” Sifaka’s;
 Up-close Ring-tailed Lemur;
 Huge colony of the Madagascar Flying Fox;
 Giant Coua, Crested and Green-capped Coua

Perinet and Mantadia:

 Tree dwelling Indri;
 Diurnal Black-and-white Ruffed Lemur;
 Giraffe-necked Weevil;
 Spectacular birds including the Pitta-like Ground Roller.

Morandava & Kirindy:

 Avenue of Baobabs;

 Baobab Amoureux;
 Variety of lemur species

Fitness: This Madagascar tour requires a reasonable level of fitness and participants should be in good general health as most of the photography will be done on foot, and may require walking
for several hours at a time. Some trails in the rainforest can be quite steep and slippery, especially after rain, and a few longer walks will be made in an attempt to photograph some of
the more localized species. Should you have any physical limitations, please notify us in advance

In some areas it can be very hot, especially at midday. We will thus make a number of early starts in the morning to maximize the most pleasurable time in the field. In addition, some of the
days are long and fairly demanding.
