Take the Trans-Siberian Express all the way across Russia from Moscow to Vladivostok or from Irkutsk and Lake Baikal continue down into Mongolia the land of Genghis Khan and through the Gobi desert and from there down into China eventually crossing the Great Wall before arrival into Beijing. From there return home or continue with various optional extensions in China such as a Yangtze River cruise or a visit to remote and magical Tibet.
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Beijing. After clearing customs you will be met and driven to the comfortable New World Courtyard hotel or similar downtown property.
Day 2: Free day in Beijing to enjoy the city on your own or take one of the many optional sightseeing excursions available around town or out of town to the Great Wall (please enquire for details and prices). (B).
Day 3: Early morning transfer to the central railroad station for the 7:40 AM departure of Chinese train #3. Cross the border into Mongolia during the night. (B).
Day 4: On the train as you traverse the Gobi and the Mongolian grasslands. Arriving in Ulan Bator at approximately 1:15 PM you will be met and transferred to your hotel, the Bayangol. After a chance to freshen up you will have an introductory city tour including a visit to the museum of National history before returning to the hotel for dinner. (B).
Day 5: This morning you will have a visit to the Bogdo Khan Palace, home of the last Khan and now a museum before a drive into the countryside area of Chingsiin khuree camp where you will have lunch. There will be time to relax and enjoy the Mongolian countryside before driving back to Ulan Bator perhaps with a chance to meet some of the local people on the way. (it is possible to spend overnight in a traditional "ger" if you prefer, returning to Ulan Bator the next morning – please advise). This evening you will be taken to a see a special treat — a traditional Folk Dance concert. (B).
Day 6: Today continue sightseeing with your personal English-speaking guide by making a visit to Gandan monastery before lunch then the Fine art museum in the afternoon. After dinner you will be taken to the train station to board train #264 bound for Irkutsk departing 9:00 PM. (B).
If you’d like to have more time in Mongolia, we can extend this itinerary to spend longer in Mongolia including a visit to the South Gobi to see the giant sand dunes, and a visit to the ruins of Karakoram and Erdene-Zuu monastery. Please ask for a fuller itinerary and price if interested.
Day 7: On board the train crossing from Mongolia to Russia you will have a chance to view rural life and the fascinating scenery in these remote areas. (B).
Day 8 Cross into Russia and travel along the shores of Lake Baikal into Irkutsk for a scheduled arrival at 8:45 AM local time. You will be met and taken to the hotel Baikal-Intourist located downtown on the banks of the Angara river. (B).
Day 9: Today you will have an excursion to beautiful Lake Baikal and the fishing village of Listvyanka by private car with your own English speaking guide. (B).
Day 10: Free time to look around this pleasant city on your own before an afternoon transfer to the train station for the 4:30 PM departure of Trans-Siberian Express train #9 for Moscow. (B).
Days 11 & 12: On board the train crossing from Asia into Europe. (B).
Day 13: Arrive Moscow at 5:00 PM. You will be met and transferred to hotel Ukraine located beside Red Square in the heart of the city. (B).
Day 14: Free day to enjoy the capital city of Russia on your own or take some of the optional sightseeing excursions available. (B).
Day 15: Transfer to the airport for your departure flight. (B).
