Ethiopia is a land of history. Marvel at the ancient rock churches hewn from the solid cliff face in the north of the country and the colorful tribes and village markets in the south. As extension to neighboring Djibouti and Eritrea compliment this tour showing the similarities and differences in this region.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Addis Ababa. After clearing customs and immigration you will be met and taken to the Lalibela Hotel or similar. Balance of day at leisure to relax.
Day 2: Today you will have an introductory sightseeing tour of the city including the Mercato markets area. In the evening you will see a Folklore show if available.
Day 3: This morning after breakfast transfer to the airport of the flight to Lalibela. Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to the Jerusalem hotel or similar to freshen up then begin sightseeing of the excavated rock Churches of Lalibela.
Day 4: After breakfast transfer to Lalibela airport and fly back to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival you will be met and then go by road to Langano stopping enroute at one of the Rift Valley Lakes. Overnight at Bekele Molla Hotel on the shore of Lake Langano.
Day 5: Drive from Langano to Arba Minch today passing by the Rift Valley Lakes of Shalla and Abyta. Visit the Wolita people and then proceed to Chencha to visit the Dorze people. A school visit will be included along the route today if possible. Overnight at the Bekele Molla Hotel
Day 6: After breakfast begin the drive to Jinka stopping on the way to see the Konso people and their village. Further along the route visit the Woito people who live in the area around the Woito River and Tsemay village. Continue driving to Key Afer to visit the colorful market, if it is open on the day you are there, where you will visit the Benna, Tsemay and perhaps the lesser seen Ari tribes. Finally on to Jinka for overnight at Jinka Resort Hotel.
Day 7: Drive back to Arba Minch seeing the Bena and Tsemay people on the way. Today you will have a boat ride on Lake Chamo during which you should see many
Hippos and the spectacular concentrations of giant crocodiles, locally called the "Crocodile Market". Overnight at Bekele Molla Hotel.
Day 8: Drive back to Addis Ababa through the Great Rift Valley lakes. En route stop at viewpoints for the best views of the Rift Valley Lakes of Shala, Abyta and Langano. Overnight at Lalibela Hotel.
Day 9: Transfer to Bole International Airport today for the flight to Djibouti. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the hotel Sheraton or similar.
Day 10: Full day sightseeing tour including the highlights of this small country with a visit to Lake Easal.
Day 11: Transfer back to the airport for the flight to Asmara, Eritrea. On arrival you will be met and taken to the centrally located Sunshine hotel or similar. Time permitting we begin sightseeing.
Days 12-13: During these two day you will be driven across the plain of Kohaito, inhabited by the Saho people, with visits to the pre-Axumite cities of Tokonda, Kohaito and Matara. Return to Asmara for overnight.
Day 14: Free day to relax or look around on your own before transfer to the airport for your international departure flight.
