We begin each tour in the historic city of Quito. During our time in this bustling city, you will learn to quiet your mind in metropolitan parks & tap into the energy of Volcano Pichincha as we glide by gondola up its slopes to 13,300 ft. Learn about Quito’s history in the colonial center where churches, museums & architecture can keep you busy for hours then feel the rush of securing a great deal at the Artesenal Market where you can discover your perfect handcrafted souvenir.
Heading out of the city, we travel along the Avenue of Volcanoes to wide open plains, surreal landscapes, and our home for the next 2 evenings. Settle into a cozy hacienda in the foothills of Volcano Cotopaxi where we will enjoy the day’s yoga practice to stretch our bodies then relax by the inviting fire. After a sound sleep enveloped in the peace of the páramo (highlands) and a hearty breakfast we head to Cotopaxi National park. Feel the energy of the world’s highest active volcano flowing beneath us as we take advantage of yet another spectacular setting for yoga practice…sometimes while wearing llama chaps! Challenge your limits as you hike up to the climber’s refuge and relish the reward of incredible vistas before we head back to the lodge for another restful evening and meditation under the stars.
Our final destination is a tropical cloud forest paradise. On the way, visit Mitad del Mundo, a town on the equatorial line where we will explore the Intiñan demonstrative museum. Challenge your brain and marvel at equatorial oddities as you watch water drain in different directions in opposite hemispheres, balance an egg on the head of a nail, & step inside examples of traditional Ecuadorian homes. After standing in both hemispheres at once, we head down out of the Andes. The landscape quickly changes around us as we reach Mindo, a small, quiet and friendly town nestled in the tropical cloud forest. Breathe in the moist, fresh air and reinvigorate your spirit as hummingbirds fly above you. Wake up to the sound of the exotic bird life and join a guided hike to meet these magnificent creatures up close. Enliven your taste buds during a chocolate-tasting tour, feel pure exhilaration as you soar through the forest on a canopy tour, or simply breathe deep and relax into a pool filled with the healing power of fresh spring water. The serene and magical environment of the cloud forest also affords plenty of opportunities for group yoga practice, meditation, relaxation and rejuvenation of the mind, body and spirit.
Finally, we return to Quito refreshed and rejuvenated for a farewell dinner together celebrating new friends, memories, growth and the country that so graciously hosted our journey.
Day 1: Arrive in Quito. Transport from Quito’s Mariscal Sucre (UIO) airport to your hotel. Meals Included: None.
Day 2: Historic Old Town Quito. A.M. Yoga in the tranquility of our boutique hotel. Afternoon tour of Quito’s colonial historic district for which the city has been named a UNESCO world heritage site. Meet & great dinner with fellow travelers, yoga instructor and hosts. Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner.
Day 3: Teleferico Cable Car and Artesenal Market. This morning, we will take a ride in Quito’s Teleferiqo up the flanks of volcano Pichincha to 13,300 ft. Enjoy an empowering practice on the slopes of Pichincha with volcanic energy flowing below our feet. Embark upon an afternoon shopping and bargaining excursion to the Artesenal Market. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch.
Day 4: Hacienda and Horseback Riding. Off we go into the heart of the Avenue of Volcanoes! Arrive at a cozy historic hacienda just in time for a hearty, traditional lunch before using your time in the afternoon to choose your adventure. Opt to take a 3 hour horseback ride across windswept plains, relax by the fire, or enjoy a self-guided hike. After the day’s activities, enjoy another traditional meal and yoga under the stars before drifting off into a peaceful sleep. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Day 5: Cotopaxi National Park. Today we visit Cotopaxi and enjoy an exhilarating practice on the shores of a volcanic lake. Afterwards, we will have the opportunity to hike up Cotopaxi’s slopes to the refuge at 15,900 ft. After such an active day, we return once more to the comfort of our mountain lodge Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner.
Day 6: Mitad del Mundo and Mindo. A.M. transport to the small town of Mindo situated in the Andean cloud forest (Aprox. 4 hours). Along the way, we will stop at the equator & tour the Intiñan Museum, a fun and informative collection of exhibits and demonstrations on the GPS marked equator. Arrive in Mindo and explore the town including a tour through a local chocolate making facility (with tasting!). Settle into the eco-lodge and take advantage of the cloud forest’s serenity with an afternoon yoga session. Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner
Day 7: Mindo. This morning, you can choose to wake up early and join a guide to meet some of the native bird life or sleep in. Participate in an invigorating morning yoga session before heading out on one of several optional activities including:
- Travel in a cable car across a canyon thick with vegetation and explore numerous waterfalls on the other side
- Soar through the cloud forest by zip line
- Stay put, enjoy several hikes around the property and take advantage of the pool and sauna
Rejoin the group for an evening meditation and slip into a peaceful night’s sleep. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 8: Mindo to Quito.
After breakfast and one last opportunity to utilise the yoga cabaña, we return to Quito (approx. 2 hours). Tonight, we have the opportunity to recount the week’s adventures and say goodbye to new friends at a farewell dinner before preparing for departure. Meals Included: Breakfast, Dinner.
Day 9: Departure.

I want to teach others that yoga can provide a non-competitive workout that improves everything from flexibility, endurance, balance and posture to mental focus and breath awareness. These aspects can be important in any athletic training as well as our daily lives.”

With more than 22 years of experience teaching fitness classes as well as being an accomplished runner, cyclist and triathlete, Amy is passionate about educating and training individuals and groups in methods and strategies to live healthier lives.
Amy discovered yoga over a decade ago while researching non-invasive methods for relieving chronic back pain. She found that yoga not only improved her flexibility and relieved her pain it also improved her athletic performance, taught her how to breathe more efficiently, and improved her balance. She found that yoga, at its essence, opened a whole new world of possibilities. She found a path towards peace. Eager to share this knowledge with others, Amy studied yoga under Stephanie Keach at the Asheville Yoga School in Asheville, North Carolina, and later opened her business, YogaFix, based in Albany, Georgia. YogaFix allows Amy to fulfill her passion of teaching individuals techniques to bring holistic wellness into their lives.
In 2013, Amy expanded her yoga training in the world of Therapeutic yoga and obtained her 500-hour RYT status through AYC. Therapeutic yoga involves an inherently holistic approach incorporating mind, body and spirit. It allows the body to naturally move toward health while reducing the effects of illness or injury. It is designed for a wide range of people with physical limitations such as back and/or hip issues, arthritis, cancer, anxiety & depression, and much more.
Amy incorporates many yoga styles into her practice and teachings and especially enjoys power yoga, Vinyasa Flow, and Yin Yoga. During your active retreat with Amy, you will explore a daily mix of these yoga teachings with an emphasis on Therapeutic Yoga and relaxation techniques including daily meditation.
