After Settle, you meet the hardest climb of the tour. Not everyone makes it up to the top on the saddle, there's no shame in pushing the bike for a bit. Amazing views once on top when the road drops gently, passing the impressive highland cattle grazing by the roadside. The riding's easy till Appletreewick where you begin a steady climb into the Nidderdale to the highest part of the tour (1312ft or 404m) from which you have a steep descent down Greenhow Hill, caution and enjoyment is required!
Towards Ripon you pass the curious Briham rocks before finding yourself in a pastoral landscape that surrounds the cathedral city of Ripon. Now the cycling becomes easier as you exit the Pennines and find yourself cycling through The Vale of York. The journey continues to pass through quaint picturesque villages. On the way to York you pass the River Ouse following the signposted traffic-free path, which takes you into York where the path passes the minster itself.
Leaving York the cycling is easy, passing more countryside villages until you come to Polkington. Here the road rises into the Yorkshire Wolds, a series of low-lying hills, beautiful to cycle through. You continue your undulating climb towards Huggate.
The cycling to Driffield is easy - flat or downhill. Now you are closing in on Bridlington, your quarry, but first you rise one more time into the wolds where you will get your first glimpse of The North Sea, before descending into Bridlington for a well earned drink.
