This is a day trip from Addis Ababa to visit the old active church of Adadi Mariam which is cut out of a single piece of rock in the 13th Century by the order of King Lalibela. During this tour we will drive 190 km in total out of which 24 is on gravel. Visitors will enjoy great scenery of the Ethiopian part of the East African Rift Valley. Then, we drive the rock hew church of Adadi Mariam which is still active and operational.
After having a typical Ethiopian coffee ceremony at local Oromo people family house which enables visitors to interact and experience the daily life of the countryside people, we will drive farther south to visit the steles of Tiya. The Steles of Tiya are about 40 tall, beautifully decorated with carvings, grave markers. This cemetery site was founded in the 14th Century AD and registered by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1978.
