It certainly has an excellent snow record and really extensive off-piste options most of which is accessible from the liftsystem with limited walking required.
Tour Itinerary
5 full days off-piste instruction plus 1 'freeskiing' day when no instruction is provided.
The principal aims of these weeks are:
- To provide first class off-piste ski instruction & tuition from professional, friendly Ski Instructors to radically improve your off piste skiing technique.
- To give practical mountain awareness training on the hazards and risks associated with skiing off-piste particularly for avalanches.
- To provide the opportunity to ski the best off piste in the Portes du Soleil ski region.
Itineraries vary depending on the composition of the group and the weather and snow conditions.
Ski area:
Morzine sits in the heart of the Portes du Soleil Ski Circuit which comprises 13 resorts split between France and Switzerland. There are 650kms of piste making it one of the largest ski areas in the Alps. The off-piste skiing is varied and challenging and with so much terrain to explore you certainly won’t get bored. Some of the best descents are only accessible with some walking but the rewards are worth it. Tree skiing at Chamossiere is a particular favourite as is ‘The Swiss Wall’, a steep vertical off piste slope accessed from the top of the Chavanette lift above Avoriaz. With Chamonix only 1 hour away there is also the option to spend a day on the Vallee Blanche or heli-skiing in Courmayeur.

The Level 4 Off-Piste Performance courses were previously called "Off-Piste Beginner". These courses are ideal for skiers who have never skied off-piste or have limited off-piste experience (less than 2 weeks). All participants need to be competent on-piste, capable of skiing parallel at a steady pace on all red runs whatever the conditions and easy black runs. These weeks will be run by Ski Instructors with focus on comprehensive off-piste instruction.
Level 5 courses are aimed at skiers with some off-piste experience (e.g. completed a Performance Level 4 course or similar) and who are looking for further intensive off-piste instruction. These weeks will be run by Ski Instructors and the focus will be on selecting terrain that will really challenge you and take your skiing to the next level.
Stamina: ***
For the off-piste performance courses you need to have good allround fitness and stamina. We recommend that you prepare for any trip by running, cycling or any other keep-fit activity. Generally the fitter you are, the more fun you will have.
Accommodation and meals: Morzine & surrounding villages (Les Gets, St Jean d'Aulps, Montriond) has some excellently run chalets which offer comfortable accommodation, excellent food and private transfers to the lift stations.
The 4-11 March week will be based in Chalet Le Chateau, a beautiful chateau located close to the centre of Morzine. The chalet sleeps up to 22 people and is renowned for the high standard of accommodation, service and cuisine. The chalet is operated by specialist Morzine Tour Operator, Ski Purple Goat.
Equipment: A copy of our recommended kit list will be sent to you at the time of booking.
Standard downhill equipment is acceptable on our beginner-level off-piste weeks.
Safety equipment: everyone is expected to ski at all times with the three essential items of avalanche safety equipment; transceiver, shovel and probe. If you ski off-piste regularly we recommend you purchase your own set. We use and recommend the DTS Tracker and can offer you these at a discounted rate. Alternatively the guides do usually have a number of sets available for hire.
Our Staff: In Morzine our off-piste performance courses will be run by Ski Instructors. Our staff are chosen for their friendly personalities and passion for their sport as well as their expertise and knowledge as mountain professionals. They will ensure you have a highly rewarding and enjoyable week.
Insurance: It is a condition of booking that you are insured for off-piste skiing covering personal accident, rescue and third party risks. You are strongly advised also to take out cover against cancellation and curtailment. Mountain Tracks can arrange this for you at a cost of £42 per person for a 9-day policy. Duration & Prices: Trip duration is 7 days (6 days skiing, of which 5 are guided). The price includes course fees, 7 nights half-board or chalet-board accommodation.
