The ski area is huge and can cater for any level of skier. Although the 3 Valleys is renowned as the world's largest and busiest interlinked ski ar, for skiers looking for a week of great skiing away from the crowds there are acres of excellent off-piste terrain most of which is easily accessible from the lift systems. Together the area has more than 200 lifts and over 600kms of piste suitable for everyone from first day novices to expert level. The off-piste terrain here is equally impressive with enough choice to satisfy the most demanding backcountry enthusiasts. The highest lifts take you to 3200m (on the Glacier de Peclet).
Tour Itinerary
5 1/2 days off-piste instruction (3 hours per day). The week includes 1 day with no instruction.
The principal aims of this week are:
- To provide first class instruction from professional, friendly Ski Instructors to improve off piste skiing technique & style.
- To give practical mountain awareness training on the hazards and risks associated with skiing off-piste
- To provide the opportunity to ski the best off piste terrain in the Three Valleys.
The week is intended to be fun with lots of thrilling skiing but always directed with maximum attention to your safety and the safety of others.
Itineraries vary depending on the composition of the group and the weather and snowconditions.
Skill:
The Level 4 Off-Piste Performance courses were previously called "Off-Piste Beginner". These courses are ideal for skiers who have never skied off-piste or have limited off-piste experience (less than 2 weeks). All participants need to be competent on-piste, capable of skiing parallel at a steady pace on all red runs whatever the conditions and easy black runs. These weeks will be run by Ski Instructors with focus on comprehensive off-piste instruction.
Level 5 courses are aimed at skiers with some off-piste experience (e.g. completed a Performance Level 4 course or similar) and who are looking for further intensive off-piste instruction. These weeks will be run by Ski Instructors and the focus will be on selecting terrain that will really challenge you and take your skiing to the next level.
The performance level 6 courses are for strong all-round skiers with excellent fitness. You should be able to ski off-piste confidently on all but the steepest slopes and the trickiest conditions. These weeks will be led by Ski Instructors and the focus will be getting you to a level where you can ski confidently on all terrain and all snow types in a smooth and fluid manner.
Stamina: ***
For the off-piste performance courses you need to have good allround fitness and stamina. We recommend that you prepare for any trip by running, cycling or any other keep-fit activity. Generally the fitter you are, the more fun you will have.
Accommodation and meals: Accommodation is provided in Chalet Marini which is operated by specialist Meribel chalet operator, Ski Basics.
The chalet is located in Meribel Village, only 150m from the four-man Golf chairlift. It is split over four levels and offers a perfect mix of relaxation with good facilities. There are 10 rooms, all en-suite (bath or shower available), a comfortable lounge, log fire and dining area. A real find for us, ideal for our courses and offering a more personal touch to your holiday.
Equipment: A copy of our recommended kit list will be sent to you at the time of booking. Standard downhill equipment is suitable for these courses. All skiers will need to carry a small day sack (max 25 litres) containing their safety gear and any personal items e.g. camera. Safety equipment: everyone is expected to ski at all times with the three essential items of avalanche safety equipment; transceiver, shovel and probe. If you ski off-piste regularly we recommend you purchase your own set. We use and recommend the excellent DTS Tracker and can offer you these at a discounted rate. Contact us for further details.
Insurance: It is a condition of booking that you are insured for off-piste skiing covering personal accident, rescue and third party risks. You are strongly advised also to take out cover against cancellation and curtailment. Mountain Tracks can arrange insurance cover for you at a cost of £42 per person for 9 days cover. Dates & Duration: Trip duration is 7 days with 5 half-days of off-piste instruction. Private group weeks are available from Xmas until end April.
Prices: All prices are per person. The price includes the course fees (5 half-day) and 7 nights chalet-board accommodation in fully catered chalet. The price does not include: Lift pass, lunches, personal insurance, equipment hire, international travel and airport transfers. Single-room occupancy may incur additional charges.
