The success of family trips on the Lighthouse Route and in Prince Edward Island, we are pleased to expand the opportunities by including the Annapolis Valley – a natural choice for a diverse collection of activities. The fun is waiting for you!
This adventure enthralls any child, even those with children of their own! You will be entertained with whale-watching, graveyard stories, roller-coaster rides, and a hike to see the world’s highest tides. You can visit Canada’s original European fur-trading post, learn about the early conflicts between English, French, and Native Americans, and rest in the university town of Wolfville.
When the river is running, you will spend an afternoon floating through the countryside on large inner tubes warmed by the sun. You will feast on fresh fruit and berries, as well as lobster and lollipops, and will return to Halifax amazed by the history and harvest, and refreshed by the fresh air and fun. If you would like to extend the adventure by including sea-kayaking, sailing to offshore islands, or rides to beaches on the South Shore, we are happy to plan your holiday extension.

Alternative option: a hike between the lighthouses on Brier Island, or to balancing rock on Long Island. Transfer back at day’s end to Smith’s Cove, with stop for Digby scallops enroute. Lodging: same as last night.
Day 3: 15 mile bike ride. Optional extra distances for advanced cyclists. Morning ride through Bear River to the roller coaster and water flume rides at Upper Clements Park. Stop at Wildlife park if younger children from the group. Afternoon exploration of Annapolis Royal and, if more cycling distance is desired, the nearby restored 18th century trading post of Port Royal. Evening early dinner and graveyard tour (schedule permitting). Lodging: Hillsdale House, Annapolis Royal.
Day 4: Variable cycling, depends on group. Optional morning visit to the zoo near Aylesford. Cycle through charming Annapolis Valley farmlands to an outdoor lobster feast for lunch, where you'll see Bay of Fundy tides rise or fall over ten feet while you're eating lunch. Cycle through the farm village of Canning to Wolfville. Choose from several nationally acclaimed local restaurants and attend a play at the Atlantic Theatre Festival if you like. This is an exciting small town in which to spend an evening. Lodging: Victoria's Historic Inn, Wolfville.
Day 5: 4 hour hike. A four hour hike takes you to Cape Split, where you can wander along the precipices hundreds of feet above the Bay of Fundy, whose waters are transformed by the strong tides into a tapestry of eddies, whirlpools, and white-water currents. Eat a fabulous lunch on Cape Split before returning to Wolfville for an evening of excellent dining at our inn. Lodging: same as last night.
Day 6: 15 miles, plus options. Start the day with some cycling along the dykes, built by the Acadian farmers to protect their fields from the high tides of the Bay of Fundy. This is a traffic free route to Grand Pre village, about where Longfellow wrote his famous poem "Evangeline". After lunch, ride through orchards to the Hellgate Dam, and finish the afternoon with a swim in a magical pool, or an inner tube ride down a pastoral river. Afternoon van transfer back to Halifax, or optional transfer back to Smith’s Cove.
