This holiday is designed for those who love traveling, being active outdoors and exploring seaside, nature, heritage, history and art. Daily routes are rather short - 2 to 3 hours of easy sea kayaking - and not demanding, fit for all ages between 14 and late sixties (no previous sea kayaking experience is necessary). Dubrovnik in Croatia– one of the world’s most beautiful old towns - and Elafiti shorelines are rich in history and natural variety - cliffs, caves, pine and palm trees, hidden coves, reefs, sandy beaches...
Lopud, Kolocep and Sipan belong to Elafiti Islands Archipelago – 13 green islands covered by pine forests, without car traffic, with lots of sunshine and sandy beaches, less than an hour sailing time from Dubrovnik. Each has no more than a couple of hundreds permanent residents who live in stone houses of traditional character. Tall palm trees, parks, gardens and flowers everywhere contribute to easy going life style. You will spend a day exploring each island and Dubrovnik. They are not just places of incredible natural beauties but also open air museums of history, art, architecture and folklore. And there will be a day for an optional excursion to Herzegovina rivers for rafting or canoeing or Mljet Island National Park. Our base is Lopud Island, 1 hour by ferry from Dubrovnik harbor. A small town of the same name with three hotels, several restaurants and cafes, 2 sandy beaches, no cars and great sunsets. You will stay in simple but clean and pleasant rooms in traditional stone houses. Rooms in 3- and 4-star hotel are available on request, a surcharge depending on type of hotel/room and season. Self-catering apartments are available as well. Tour Itinerary: Day 1, Saturday: Arrival to Dubrovnik Airport and transfer to Lopud Island by bus and boat. Accommodation in a house very near the beach and waterfront – main street of the little town of Lopud. There will be time to enjoy a swim in the sea and walk to Fort Kastio on island’s highest peak for a wonderful view of sunset over Elafiti Islands. A tour of Lopud pubs and cafes will take place before and after dinner. Day 2, Sunday: Safety and sea kayaking instructions will take place on the sandy beach of Lopud. The first trip starts in the morning to the nearby island of Sipan. Sipan has colorful villages of Sudjuradj and Luka Sipanska. The fields between them have preserved the real country life style, chapels, monasteries, palaces and summer houses of ancient Dubrovnik aristocracy. This island is unbelievably rich in cultural heritage, tales from the past and well preserved monuments that witnessed its turbulent history. We will explore them by walking or bicycling and there will be plenty of time to relax on beaches or in cafes. We will return to Lopud late in the afternoon. Day 3, Monday: The kayaks will take us around the island to the sandy beach of Sunj Bay on Lopud’s Southern side. This is the most popular beach of Dubrovnik so we visit it on Monday when it’s not too busy. Diving mask, snorkel and fins will be provided for you to explore the rich and colorful underwater world of the Adriatic. A pleasant walk back to the village for dinner takes only half hour but you are welcome to hike the longer western route through the forest and along the high cliffs edge. Day 4, Tuesday: Paddle, swim and snorkel around Kolocep Island, the most interesting for sea kayaking and hiking with most dramatic scenery with hidden dark caves, high cliffs and colorful reefs. Walk through Gornje Celo and Donje Celo, well preserved romantic Mediterranean villages, and along high cliffs. A pleasant noon siesta will take place in a quiet and relaxing atmosphere of Gornje Celo turquoise bay near Skerac – kayaker’s favorite restaurant. Late in the afternoon we shall return to Lopud. Day 5, Wednesday: Beach day. You are free to do whatever you enjoy the most. Sunbathing, swimming, snorkeling, walking, kayaking. Or take the ferry to Dubrovnik, the most beautiful of all Mediterranean towns, for sightseeing, shopping in ancient streets, walking along city walls… Ice cream or coffee taste the best in open air bistros along Stradun, old town’s main street and promenade. Lokrum Island Reserve and its rocky beaches are worth exploring and only about 10 minutes by boat from the old town harbor. Return to Lopud in the evening. Note: This is the last day of the holiday if you booked the 5-day option. Day 6, Thursday:Kayaking and dolphin search is the main activity planned for this day. The exotic Sv. Andrija Island is a favorite spot for thousands of birds, fishermen and dolphins. Optionally, you can participate in 1-day Trebizat river canoeing excursion in Herzegovina including the visit to Mostar, a wonderful old Ottoman empire town and trading post or a boat trip to Mljet Island National Park whose salt water lakes can be explored on foot, by bicycle, canoe or kayak (to be booked and paid on spot). Day 7, Friday: The last kayaking trip destination is usually Trsteno village and arboretum – a wonderful park with a collection of exotic plants and trees, a Neptun’s fountain and great views of the islands. A farewell party is planned after sunset of the last evening on Lopud. Day 8, Saturday: Day 8 - Saturday: Transfer to Dubrovnik for homebound flight.
