Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Home / Delhi. Depart for Delhi.
Day 2: Arrive in Delhi. On arrival, you will be taken to your hotel. This afternoon you drive to Old Delhi to see the Red Fort (17th century fortress) and the Jama Masjid (Friday Mosque), India’s largest mosque where 20,000+ people can kneel in prayer. Later visit Raj Ghat (Mahatma Gandhi’s Memorial) built on the spot where he was cremated. (D)
Day 3: Delhi / Agra On the way to Agra, you visit Sikandra to see the mausoleum of Mughal King Akbar (1556-1605). Upon arrival, check in to your hotel for dinner and overnight. (B,D)
Day 4: Agra. This morning, you begin at a park surrounding the Taj Mahal created by planting many trees in order to protect the Taj Mahal from pollution. Walk along a nature trail offering great views of the Taj Mahal. Later you visit the Taj Mahal (1631-1663), a poem in white marble, built by Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife, Mumtaj Mahal. (Taj Mahal closed on Fridays). This afternoon, you visit Agra Fort and Palace (situated on the River Jamuna’s West Bank) and Itmad-ud-Daula. (B, D)
Day 5: Agra / Jaipur. En route to Jaipur, you visit Fatehpur Sikri, a beautiful, deserted medieval city built by Akbar the Great to serve as capital of his vast empire. The Mughals later abandoned this city for lack of water. Upon arrival in Jaipur, you check in to your hotel. (B, D)
Day 6: Jaipur. This morning, you visit Hawa Mahal (palace of winds) en route to the Amber City Fort which was the ancient capital of the Kachhawaha Rajputs till 1037. In the afternoon, return to the “Pink City” of Jaipur and visit the City Palace (a blend of Mughal and Rajasthani architecture) and the Royal Observatory. (B, D)
Day 7: Jaipur / Udaipur (by air). You take an early morning flight to Udaipur, known as the ‘Venice of the East.’ You visit the City Palace (built on the bank of Lake Pichola) and the Jagdish Temple (a fine example of the Nagara style of temple architecture). Later visit Sahelion-ki Bari, an ornamental pleasure garden specially made for the ladies of the palace in the 18th century. Late this afternoon, enjoy boat ride on Lake Pichola. (B, D)
Day 8: Udaipur / Delhi (by air). Depart for Delhi early this morning. On arrival, transfer to the hotel. Later today, a tour of New Delhi features the President’s Palace and India Gate (built to commemorate the 70,000 Indian soldiers who died in World War I). Next, you visit Humayun’s Tom and Qutub Minar, the highest sandstone minaret in the world. (B, D)
Day 9: Delhi / Home (or next destination). Depart for home or your next destination. (B)
