The Isthmus of Tehuantepec is Mexico´s smallest landmass in between 2 large bodies of water, the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean. It is a fascinating place with one of the only matriarchal societies in Mexico where many traditions still flourish and where food plays an important role in upholding them.
Our days of studying Istmenian food and lifestyle will culminate with attending the Fiesta de Candelaria in a remote village where the people are an exotic mix of the Zapotec and Huave groups. There we will be hosted by a well known local chef. We will rent traditional trajes (elaborate local dress) for the women to attend the ball or vela and men will have to wear white shirts and black pants to join in the festivities. We will travel in a small group by van to visit the various pueblos and cities of the area. Attending cooking classes and demonstrations, tastings and private dinners while visiting various friends of mine, who will open their hearts and homes to you. On the Pacific Coast, the tour continues with an in depth look at fish cookery, a visit to a beautiful coffee finca in the mountains above Huatulco, birding in kayaks and many more tastes in the Bahas de Huatulco. We will travel on to Puerto Escondido, visiting the turtle museum in Mazunte on the way for our final evening there. The tour will begin and end in Puerto Escondido , Oaxaca or you can arrange to fly in and out of Huatulco. Both have flights that go to and from Mexico City or Oaxaca City . Note: This is a 10 day-11 night tour in late January-early February. Deposit, Cancellations And Refunds: To secure your place in a class or course, a deposit is required. This information will be sent to you when you make your reservation. Courses and culinary tours: Twenty-five percent of the total price (including single supplement) will be charged if a participant cancels 60 days to 30 days prior to the course. When the cancellation occurs between the 29th day to the first day of the course, no refund will be given unless the space is sold to another participant. If the space is filled, a refund less the non-refundable deposit will be given. A written notification must be received prior to refund. If the course is canceled by Seasons of My Heart, all fees will be refunded. Responsibility: We assume no liability or responsibility for any delay, loss, damage, injury or accident with regards to persons or property caused by fault or negligence of any hotel, transportation, or local operator rendering a part of our services.
