Many people are happy living in ‘a box’ doing mundane tasks because that is the way they have always lived. ‘True travel’ is not necessarily about acceptance of change but more about finding out and allowing you the opportunity to see what else is on offer. We have to step out of our comfort zones for a short while in order to receive the surprises! ‘Human’ Bakery, Railway Market or even the night boat rides are something unusual to most people. Thailand brought in different kinds of farming skills from western countries decades ago. Now farming has reached a mature level and Thai people are proud to show off their current farming skills. In contrast to the old Siam Empire- Ayutthaya, we are able to see the achievements of the past. Thailand is one of a few countries on earth which holds its own strong traditions (Thailand is a country that has never been conquered.), yet also manages to absorb advantages of other cultures. Day 7 Synopsis: Coexistence (Kanchanaburi)
Kanchanaburi is a place with distinct contrasts. It is a very beautiful place with plenty of eye-catching scenery, waterfalls and forests. However, Kanchanaburi holds a sinister secret. It embeds thousands of lives that were sacrificed during the construction of The Death Railway & The River Kwai Bridge during World War II. It is said that for every sleeper that was laid, a life was given. 120,000 sleepers were laid. Fifty years after the atrocity of Death Railway, a monk adopted a couple of young orphaned tigers and transformed their nature and destinies. Eventually, locals brought in more orphaned tigers and now there is a successful breeding programme that helps sustain and build the population of tigers. The area is now known as Tiger Temple. It is now a joyful place of reflection and peace, a far distance from the area’s turbulent and chilling past. This is a reflection of how human nature can be so diverse. Included: (B), (L), (D).

In the 100 year old market of Chacheongsao, we will slow down our pace for a bit as we are influenced by the local’s life style, which has remained unchanged for over a century. For most of us life should move on, as we need to evolve and improve. However, this doesn’t mean we have to abandon the old good times completely! Another hidden treasure - Bangkok Sea View Restaurant has been reserved for all of us to get together before we depart for our own routines. Time is flowing like water on the river, but this precious memory will stay with us forever. Bon Voyage! Included: (B), (L), (D).
