This tiny region of Mustang, once called the Kingdom of Lo, was only opened to trekkers in 1991. The Department of Immigration is permitting limited numbers of travelers to visit this area to protect the local Tibetan traditions from outside influence as well as to protect and preserve the environment.

Your journey to this Tibetan influenced region begins with late evening flight to Pokhara then next day early morning flight to Jomsom, the official headquarters of Mustang District. From Jomsom, trail heads through almost treeless barren landscape, typical Tibetan villages like Chusang, Samochin, Charang and Gheling to the walled capital of Mustang - Lo Manthang. The return is almost via the same routes, except for the detour to Muktinath which is an important pilgrimage site for both the Hindus and the Buddhists.
