Your Itinerary
Day 1: Flight to Amman. Arrival at Queen Alia International Airport, our group co-ordinate and Airport representative will meet and assist the group through all customs and immigration procedures. Welcomed by guides followed by transfer to the airport hotel.
Day 2: Cycling from Gate way hotel to – Madaba - Mount Nebo - Dead Sea 66km
After an early breakfast and bike fitting we cycle west through an area of small villages and agricultural areas. The terrain is slightly undulating. Our first stop is the town of Madaba, known for its ancient mosaic church floor depicting the map of Palestine and Lower Egypt.
After a visit in Madaba we continue to Mount Nebo, the traditional site of the death of Moses, and where we can enjoy the spectacular view over the Dead Sea Valley with Jericho and eastern Israel (on a clear day Jerusalem can be seen). After a picnic lunch we continue with a fantastic downhill into the valley and after a bumpy off-road section we reach our hotel on the Dead Sea shore. Time for relaxing and a float in the Dead Sea.
Day 3: Cycling along the dead sea beach 60Km. Then bus transfer to Petra on the way visit in Kerak.
Day 4: Whole day visit to the antiquities in Petra, no cycling this day.
A short 10 minute ride will bring us to the area of Little Petra, just north of Petra. This was the centre for the Nabatean caravan trade and from here the caravans left for their faraway destinations. A two hour hike through stunning desert and mountain scenery will bring us to the ancient Nabatean city of Petra, the rock carved city hidden in a valley behind an almost impenetrable barrier of rugged mountains.
We enter the city from the mountains and the first place we see is the Monastery, a huge rock carved building. A long carved staircase will bring us down into the centre of the old city. This ancient Nabatean capital built more than 2000 years ago was the cultural and strategic centre for the old spice trading routes. It prospered for many centuries but declined during the Roman period. It was rediscovered in 1812 by the Anglo-Swiss explorer John Lewis Burckhardt.
We will spend the rest of the day visiting this rose red city. At the end of the day we leave the site through the famous Siq, the narrow and very colorful sandstone canyon where we also find the famous “Treasury”, a huge rock carved building. Dinner and overnight in Petra. In the evening it is possible to visit the “Hamam” the local bathhouse for a steam bath and a good scrub.
Day 5: Cycling to Dilagha – Roberts Rock, overnight camp Jordan Valley. 60 Km
We will start the cycling from Petra, 25 km uphill to "Rajeff", high up above Petra. From here we will start a spectacular on-road ride into the Arava valley. The first part of today’s ride will be downhill along a narrow winding road passing small villages and Bedouin camps. A steep uphill brings us to our lunch stop with views across the Arava Valley.
After the picnic lunch there is a very steep winding downhill into the valley after which we cycle further through beautiful desert scenery. The road goes up and down hills. It is extremely beautiful, rewarding and good fun. At the end of the day we reach our Bedouin camp at "Roberts Rock". We have a barbecue dinner around the campfire and spend the night gazing at the stars and sleeping in the Bedouin tent – large enough for 20. Total distance today 60 km.
Day 6: Cycling from Roberts Rock – Arava – Aqaba 105km
From “Roberts Rock” we cycle 10km off road to the road that goes from north to south through the Arava valley. We turn south and head for Aqaba, Jordan’s southern most town on the shores of the Red Sea. This is a tarmac road with some great down hills. The Arava is part of the Great Rift Valley, a huge fault that runs from Turkey to the Great Lakes in Africa and includes the Dead Sea and the Red Sea.
We cycle through the lowest part of the valley with the Granite Mountains of Edom on the left and the limestone hills of Israel to our right, in the west. In the early afternoon we cycle through the busy port of Aqaba where we finish the challenge and have the rest of the day to relax.
Dinner and overnight in Aqaba.
Day 7: Free day Aqaba, Swimming, Snorkeling or relaxation in Aqaba. Afternoon Option excursion To Wadi Rum On 4WD back to Aqaba for Gala Dinner and overnight.
Day 8: Breakfast, transfer to Aqaba Airport for the return flight.
