On our Brisbane to Sydney Overland trip we explore spectacular coastal regions as well as a section of the ancient Great Dividing Range. On the coast we discover the wetlands and massive dune system of Myall Lakes National Park. While in the mountains we visit World Heritage rainforests and take in the views from The Great Escarpment.
Rainforests and Beaches Mini Trip
Brisbane to Sydney, or Sydney to Brisbane 7 days
Your Itinerary
Day 1: The trip starts with a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. We stay in inner Brisbane near the lovely subtropical Botanical Gardens.
Day 2: We travel down to beautiful Byron Bay stopping en route at the colorful North Coast markets. These markets are our favorite and a nice insight into the laid-back alternative culture of the 'rainbow region'. We arrive in Byron with plenty of time for a swim at one of the lovely beaches.
Days 3-4: Maintaining a leisurely north-coast pace, we leave Byron and head up into the mountains at Dorrigo. We have a day and half at Dorrigo to explore the subtropical rainforests of the lower mountains as well the cool temperate rainforests and spectacular views higher up.
Day 5: We follow the coast down to Myall Lakes National Park visiting a few lovely beaches along the way. Myall Lakes is a huge wetland system fringed by heathlands, Tea Tree forests and pockets of coastal rainforest. Pelicans, Black Swans and Sea Eagles contribute to the bird diversity that makes this region internationally recognized.
Day 6: We have many choices as to what to do this morning - kayaking or boating on the lakes, exploring on foot the beautiful forests, or climbing over the massive dune system to a quiet sheltered beach. In the afternoon we head to Sydney via the sandstone country of Ku-ring Gai Chase.
Day 7: The trip will finish after breakfast on the Bondi Beach Esplanade
