In between the safaris, enjoy the ancient art and culture of this wondrous continent with visits to the magnificent Taj Mahal, the "pink city" of Jaipur, the deserted ancient city Fatehpur Sikri, and the famous Hindu and Jain temples of Khajuraho from the Chandela dynasty, dating from 950 to 1050 AD.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Delhi. Arrive Delhi, India. On arrival at Delhi's international airport, we will meet at the arrival hall outside immigration and transferred to the hotel. Afternoon visit the red fort comprising exquisite palaces reflecting Mugal Architecture. Overnight at hotel.

Days 2-5: Kanha National Park. This morning you fly to Nagpur and transfer by road to Kanha Tiger Reserve. Situated in central India in the Satpura Hill ranges, Kanha offers without a doubt, India's finest Tiger viewing. Grasslands and deciduous forests also support Barasingha, Chital, Muntjac, Sambar, and Common Langur and Rhesus Monkeys, Wild Boar, Asiatic Jackal, three of India's four lowland antelopes, Nilgai, Four-horned Antelope and Blackbuck, and occasionally Leopard, Gaur, Sloth Bear, Wolf and Wild Dog. Birdlife present includes the Painted Par trudge, Shaheen Falcon, Golden Oriole and the omnipresent Red Jungle Fowl. Safaris will be on Elephant-back and by jeep.

Days 6-9: Bandhavgarh National Park. Today you transfer by road to Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. This was formerly a Royal hunting reserve of the state of Rewe where the first wild White Tiger was found. Mammals here include Chital, Sambar, Muntjac, Nilgai, Chinkara, Chowsingha, Wild Boar, Leopard, Wild Dog and of course Tiger. Birdlife also abounds with over 275 species of bird including hornbills, orioles, parakeets, peacocks, and eagles. You will take safaris into the park by elephant and jeep.

Day 10: Khajurahou. Transfer by road to Khajuraho. Visit the temples in Khajurahou. Its temples depict aspects of Indian life a thousand years ago during the Chandela period. After the Taj it is the most frequently visited monument in India. Khajuraho is a unique example of indo-aryan architecture. The Chandela rulers between 950-1050 built these temples. There were 85 temples, which were built, and only 22 of them survive today. Unlike other temples Khajuraho temples are said to have a theme (women), which comes in front while going through the temples. A celebration of woman kind, her myriad moods and facets.

There are carvings of a woman writing letter, applying makeup to her eyes, combing her tresses, dancing, and playing with her child. Innocent, coquettish, smiling, seductive, passionate and beautiful, all depicted in intricate detail, sharply etched, sculpted with consummate skill. One opinion says Chandelas were followers of the tantric cult, which believes that gratification of earthly desires is a step towards attaining the infinite liberation, nirvana. For many centuries these temples were concealed in the dense jungles to be discovered by captain T.S. Burt in 1838.

Day 11: Khajurahou to Agra. Visit Temples in the morning. Afternoon drive to Jhansi to catch the train to Agra. Night stay in Agra.

Day 12: Agra. Visit the truly magnificent Taj Mahal built as a monument of love by the Mughal Emperor Shah-jehan in 1630 for his Queen Mumtaz Mahal (nearby, the long deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri is also well worth a visit).

Tiger Reserve is dominated by sharp cliffs and narrow valleys of the Aravali mountain ranges. The grassy glades and woodland covers are excellent niches for the prey species, sambar, cheetah, nilgai, four horned antelope, wild boar and common langur, tiger, leopard and their followers' jackal, hyena and jungle cat, being nocturnal are seen after dark.
