The ideal 2-3 week wildlife safari covering all the project tiger reserves in North India. There is a good possibility of tiger spotting in Kanha, Bandhavgarh, and Ranthambhor If not a keen birder, delete Bharatpur.
In between the safaris, enjoy the ancient art and culture of this wondrous continent with visits to the magnificent Taj Mahal, the "pink city" of Jaipur, the deserted ancient city Fatehpur Sikri, and the famous Hindu and Jain temples of Khajuraho from the Chandela dynasty, dating from 950 to 1050 AD.
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Delhi
Arrive Delhi, India. On arrival at Delhi’s international airport, we will meet at the arrival hall outside immigration & transferred to the hotel. Afternoon visit the red fort comprising exquisite palaces reflecting Mugal Architecture. Overnight at hotel.
Days 2-5: Kanha National Park
This morning you fly to Nagpur and transfer by road to Kanha Tiger Reserve. Situated in central India in the Satpura Hill ranges, Kanha offers without a doubt, India’s finest Tiger viewing. Grasslands and deciduous forests also support Barasingha, Chital, Muntjac, Sambar, and Common Langur and Rhesus Monkeys, Wild Boar, Asiatic Jackal, three of India’s four lowland antelopes, Nilgai, Four-horned Antelope and Blackbuck, and occasionally Leopard, Gaur, Sloth Bear, Wolf and Wild Dog. Birdlife present includes the Painted Par trudge, Shaheen Falcon, Golden Oriole and the omnipresent Red Jungle Fowl. Safaris will be on Elephant-back and by jeep.
Days 6-9: Bandhavgarh National Park
Today you transfer by road to Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. This was formerly a Royal hunting reserve of the state of Rewe where the first wild White Tiger was found. Mammals here include Chital, Sambar, Muntjac, Nilgai, Chinkara, Chowsingha, Wild Boar, Leopard, Wild Dog and of course Tiger. Birdlife also abounds with over 275 species of bird including hornbills, orioles, parakeets, peacocks, and eagles. You will take safaris into the park by elephant and jeep.
Days 10-11: Agra
Transfer by road to Khajuraho to connect with the flight to Agra to view the truly magnificent Taj Mahal built as a monument of love by the Mughal Emperor Shah-jehan in 1630 for his Queen Mumtaz Mahal. (Nearby, the long deserted city of Fatehpur Sikri is also well worth a visit.)
Days 12-13: Ranthambore Tiger Reserve
Early morning (05.00 am) catch the train From Agra to reach Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambore) at about 10.00am.Drive by local auto to the hotel.Tiger Reserve is dominated by sharp cliffs and narrow valleys of the Aravali mountain ranges. The grassy glades and woodland covers are excellent niches for the prey species, sambar, cheetah, nilgai, four horned antelope, wild boar and common langur, tiger, leopard and their followers’ jackal, hyena and jungle cat, being nocturnal are seen after dark. Take afternoon 3 hours canter ride in the Park to view the wild Tigers with plenty of wild life in natural habitat. Night stay in Hotel in Sawai Madhopur, Ranthambore.Hotel Tiger Den or ranthambhore Bagh.
Day 14: Delhi
After a morning game drive board the train to Delhi. After dinner and a short night’s rest transfer to the airport in the early hours.
