Safety and sea kayaking (CA level 1A):
How do you anticipate and avoid potential dangers? How do you cope with a capsize? As with all outdoor activities there are several risks associated with coastal paddling that must be understood by participants. We offer you a day long clinic where the various factors relating to sea kayak safety will be covered, both in theory and in practice. Instruction includes solo and group rescue techniques. Paddle Canada Flat water Kayaking certification will be offered. Introduction to Sea Kayaking is an asset but not a prerequisite. Additional Clinics: Depending on availability of instructors we can offer dates outside the schedule for a minimum of three participants.
Dates: April 26, May 10, 24, June 7, 28, July 5, 12, August 3, 16, September 20, October 18.
Fee: 185 CAD (includes all equipment & lunch).
Eskimo rolling (CA level 1B):
The first and best self-rescue following a capsize in a kayak is the Eskimo roll. This technique, developed by northern native paddlers, allows you to remain in your boat, rapidly right yourself and continue paddling out of a potentially dangerous area. During these half day clinics we will introduce you to this fascinating technique. No prior experience is required but the Safety and Sea Kayaking is recommended.
Dates: June 27, July 4, 11, August 2, 15, September 19 (All are afternoon sessions).
Fee: 85 CAD (includes all equipment).
Kayak handling techniques (CA level 1C):
Efficient paddling strokes will increase your ability to control and maneuver your sea kayak, and add to your enjoyment of the sport. During these half day sessions we will help you to improve the basic strokes: forward and reverse paddling, turning strokes, draw strokes and bracing.
Dates: May 10, June 7, 28, July 4, 12, August 3, 16, September 20, October 18 (All are morning sessions).
Fee: 85 CAD (includes all equipment).
Kayak rescue techniques (CA level 1D):
In the event of a capsize and coming out of your kayak in deep water you need to be able to reenter quickly and efficiently. During this half day course we will practice both solo and assisted rescues.
Dates: May 10, June 7, 28, July 4, 12, August 3, 16, September 20, October 18 (All afternoon sessions).
Fee: 85 CAD (includes all equipment).
