History & Scope
With the exception of the battles of Bunker Hill, Yorktown, and Quebec, almost every major battle that took place in North America before the Civil War occurred between Ticonderoga on Lake Champlain and Saratoga on the Hudson. Within this theatre of war the French lost their claims to North America and, nineteen years later, the British lost the decisive battle for control of the Colonies. Participants will learn of the strategies devised in Paris and London for control of this region and will visit the following sites:
Forts Ticonderoga and Independence
Crown Point and Chimney Point
Whitehall (Skenesborough), birthplace of the U.S. Navy
Fort Anne and Fort Edward
Fort William Henry (Fort George)
Hubbardton Battlefield
Saratoga Battlefield and Monument

Tour Leadership
Tours are conducted by Jack Rogers who is a graduate of Williams College and Oxford University. These tours are an outgrowth of his interest in French history (and the two Napoleons) and his research into the rich heritage of the area. His remarks are urbane, clear, and succinct. Told from the interested layman’s point of view, they are crafted to the amateur’s level of interest. Mr. Rogers believes that each tour should be a well-rounded, insightful, fun, and happy experience.
