Day 1: Depart USA Today you will leave LAX for your trip to Asia. The adventure begins!
Day 2: You are in flight to Hanoi via Singapore. Due to the international dateline, you will lose a day. You will regain this on the return trip.
Day 3: You will arrive in Hanoi in the late evening. There your guide will meet and transfer you to your hotel.
Day 4: The morning is free. Then your tour will begin with a Cyclo Rickshaw Tour through the Old Quarter of Hanoi. After lunch you will be taken to the Museum of Ethnology, which is an excellent museum containing the ethnic costumes of the various minorities of VN, as well as relics, tools and even full size replicas of their homes and buildings. Afterward, you will be taken to the Hoan Kien Temple by the lake.
Day 5: You will visit the Ho Chi Minh Museum, Mausoleum and the surrounding grounds. Afterwards you will visit the Confucius Temple of Literature. In addition to the interesting grounds and buildings of the temple, they also have a concert of traditional Vietnamese music (complete with traditional ethnic costumes). The rest of the day is free for independent exploration. Meals: (B), (L). Evening Options: Water Puppets Theater.
Day 6: Today you are going to one of the most beautiful places on the face of the earth, Halong Bay! You will be driven north out of Hanoi, through the Hanoi Delta and along the Halong harbor. There you will board a private ship (or ships) to cruise through the spectacular islands, eat lunch in the midst of the beautiful areas and visit the caves (possibly swim in bay). Stay overnight on the boat. The ship has small but clean and comfortable rooms with private bathrooms. Meals: (B), (L) and (D).
Day 7: Continue in gorgeous Halong Bay.
Day 8: You can kayak in this gorgeous area or ride a motorboat. Then you will cruise back to the harbor and then drive back to the Hanoi airport for your flight to Hue, where your guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Meals: (B).
Day 9: In the morning we will take you to the airport for your flight to Hue, where your guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Once you are settled you will take a bicycle or cyclo or car to visit the Imperial Citadel - first built by king Gia Long in 1805. Here you will visit Ngo Mon Gate, Thai Hoa Palace, The Mieu Temple, and the Nine Dynastic Urns. There is a cultural show here which is itself a World Heritage Cultural experience!
Day 10: After Breakfast you will be driven on the Hai Van
Pass to Danang. You can stop to visit the Marble Mountains with its beautiful grottoes and temples. If you walk to the top of the Marble Mountain steps you will get a very good view of the area including China Beach. After you are done with the tour, we will take you to meet a family in Danang. They will give you a brief tour of their apartrment, answer questions and then make a delicious home-made dinner for you. After dinner you will be checked into your hotel.
Day 11: Free Day to enjoy your resort at China Beach.
Day 12: In the morning you can visit the Museum of Cham Sculpture to see a fine collection of some 300 sandstone sculptures of gods, beasts and celestial dancing girls of exquisite beauty - created between the 7th to 15th centuries from the Champa Empire. Then we will drive you to Hoi An and check you into your hotel. Dinner with Hoi An special dishes. Overnight in Hoi an.
Day 13: Free Time to explore.
Day 14: Today you will drive out and visit My Son Holy Land. This is the 7th-12th Century ruins for the Cham kingdom. Then you will be returned to your hotel.
Day 15: You will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Ho Chi Minh City. There your guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. In the afternoon you will be given a general city tour of Saigon and visit the War Museum, Reunification Palace, Notre-Dame Cathedral, City Post-Office and Lam Son Square.
Day 16: In the morning you will be taken to the Mekong Delta. You will visit the paper factory, the puffed rice and candy factories and take various boats and cars as you pass through the beautiful scenery of the various canals of the Mekong River. You will spend the night at Can Tho.
Day 17: You will get up early in the morning to go to the fascinating Floating Market. After this excellent adventure, you will be taken northwest to see floating farmhouses, the Cham villages, the pagodas of the sacred mountains and finally to reach the village of Chau Doc.
Day 18: Continue in the area. Some free time as well.
Day 19: Today you will take the 25 person Victoria Powerboat up the Mekong River from VN to Phnom Penh, Cambodia. You will arrive mid-day and your guide will meet you when you arrive in town and transfer you to your hotel. Once you have rested you can visit the National Museum. Evening Option: Foreign Correspondent’s Club.
Day 20: Today you will can visit the King’s Palace which features the interesting combination of French architecture and Cambodian roofs. There are also many fascinating artifacts and cultural treasures in the buildings. If you want to explore the tragic cruel Khmer Rouge regime you can visit the Genocide Museum and after lunch the Killing Fields (outside of town). Otherwise you can enjoy shopping at the local market an/or visit the small Buddhist temple on the only mound in Phnom Penh. This area of Cambodia is so flat that this the town Phnom Penh is named after it.
Day 21: You can either take the boat from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap or you can fly. This is an exciting larger power boat which seats about 100. You will go through the Mekong River to the Ton Le Sap river and ultimately to the massive lake, Ton Le Sap.
Day 22: The tour begins with Angkor Thom, the ancient capital city. After lunch you will be taken to Angkor Wat, the main temple area. The early afternoon is free. In the late afternoon you will meet the directors of the Cambodian Cultural Show and have the opportunity to see their costumes. Evening: Dinner and Cambodian cultural show. Meals: (B).
Day 23: Today you will go to Bantay Srei, which is the pink stone temple area. After lunch you will see the Ta Prohm, which is the remarkable site where the trees and the monastery intertwine in many intriguing ways. Then you will return to your hotel.
Day 24: Today we will transfer you to the airport for your flight to Bangkok where your guide will meet and transfer you to your hotel. The afternoon is free to rest, explore or shop. Then we will pick you up for dinner followed by a complimentary 2-hour Thai massage.
Day 25: Today begins with a trip to the Reclining Buddha Temple, which features a giant Buddha statue over 100 feet in length. After lunch you will go to the incredible Grand Palace with Wat Pra Kaeo. Evening: Traditional Thai dinner with classical dances and traditional performances. Meals: (B) and (L).
Day 26: You leave early in the morning to visit the Floating Market. Here you will ride on the canals through an older Thai river neighborhood and onto the actual Floating Market area. After lunch you will be taken to the airport for your flight to Chiang Mai. There your guide will meet you and transfer you to your hotel.
Day 27: After breakfast you will visit the Elephant Camp, see the elephant show, cultural show and take a one hour elephant ride, go on a bamboo raft and learn about the noble Asian elephant and the worker monkeys. You will also visit the Orchid Farm. Evening - Khantoke dinner with hill tribe dances. Meals: (B) and (L).
Day 28: The day begins with a visit to the Doi Suthep, the ancient temple sight. After lunch you will visit the Handicraft "villages" which are actually the various factories of the products the Thais are well known for: silk, silver crafting, umbrellas, cloisonne, furniture and leather.
Day 29: After breakfast you will go on an excursion to Chiang Rai. Along the way you will visit the hill tribe villages where you will meet the Aca, the Hmong, Yao and the Karen. Many of the natives have stands with handicrafts, hats, weaving, embroideries, etc. Lunch will be at local restaurants along the way. Then you will arrive in Chiang Rai and check into the hotel.
Day 30: You will visit the Queen Mother's Home and Garden, Doi Tung. Afterward we will take you to the Burmese border. Then you will visit the historic Golden Triangle where three countries share a border, Thailand, Laos and Burma. You will see the small Opium Museum and also where two rivers join the three nations. Then you will take a ride on a small river boat to the Burmese side and stop on a small island owned by Laos. Meals: (B), (L) and (D).
Day 31: You will transfer to the airport for return flight to Bangkok and continue onto Phuket. There your guide will meet you and transfer you to your beach resort.
Day 32: Free Day Option: A "jungle safari" which includes an elephant ride, a boating experience, a fairly unique elephant show and elephant demonstration as well as a monkey show. Evening option: Fantasee, the excellent multi-media show. Meals: (B) and (D).
Day 33: Free Day Option: The Phi Phi islands tour (this all day tour includes a high speed boat ride through the beautiful Phi Phi islands, some snorkeling experiences, beach stops including famous May Bay, lunch on the main Phi Phi island and some time to lounge and work on a tan). Dinner at a beautiful Thai restaurant. Meals: (B).
Day 34: You will be transferred to the airport for your return flight to Bangkok. We will book you into a hotel near the airport which has a complimentary shuttle to your hotel.
Day 35: Today you will return home with a lifetime of wonderful memories.
