Alaska's Prince William Sound: Kayaking with Glaciers

We explore the upper reaches of this huge passage--the intimate bays of Deep Water, Derickson, and Blue Fjord. Here, dramatic tidewater glaciers, towering granite peaks, beautiful beaches, waterfalls, and a lush northern rainforest await our exploration.

As an alternative, we also travel to Harriman Fjord, discovered in 1899 by John Muir. Here, 5 major glaciers cascade into the ocean, and spectacular mountains soar above. Paddling in a sea kayak is an ideal way to explore this ocean playground.

Humpback whales, orcas, Steller sea lions, sea otters, harbor porpoises, and Dall's porpoises are among the wildlife we may see. Ashore, Sitka blacktail deer, wolves, mountain goats, and black bears occasionally walk the beaches.

We set up a basecamp with breathtaking views of the bays and mountains, then set out each day by sea kayak to explore the intimate details of our grand surroundings. We may paddle through crystal icebergs, or hike remote beaches. Always, the Sargeant Icefield towers above, its glaciers cascading down to the sea. You'll see firsthand the mechanics of glaciers and their sculpting of the landscape.
