This mountain fortress supports populations of Dall sheep, caribou, grizzly bears, moose, wolves and other wildlife. We fly into a high alpine lake in a small bush floatplane and explore the surrounding mountains and glaciers, while the Alaska Range spreads out as a backdrop. You won't believe the scenery is real!
We backpack over the mountains and tundra, camping by teardrop-shaped alpine lakes, pausing to explore and take day hikes without our packs. The walking is moderately challenging, yet infinitely rewarding. Long days and mild temperatures make this one of Alaska's best alpine treks.
