This portered tea-house trip will be for backpackers and climbers a like. With a starting elevation of about 8,000 ft the trip begins near the rainforest. As the trail ascends along the ridges and valleys of the Khumbu region the environment quickly changes to conifer forests and high alpine terrain.
After nine days of hiking we reach Everest base camp and an optional side hike to Kala Pataar at over 18,000 feet. A typical day in the Khumbu may be spent hiking within view of the highest mountains in the world. Ama Dablam, Pumori, Nuptse, and Everest are just a few of the big peaks along the way. On rest days we take it easy with an opportunity to visit local Buddhist monasteries, barter in the trader’s markets, or spend a relaxed evening in the tea houses learning about the Nepali people. For the more experienced climbers there will also be the opportunity for an optional side climb of Imja Se (Island Peak, 20,285ft). This climb poses a more technical adventure to the trip despite being one of the smaller peaks of the Himalaya. It is a perfect starting point for people interested in climbing the Himalaya in the future. The return to Kathmandu marks the end of our expedition and an opportunity to see more an amazing country.
