Three day Glacier safety and rescue seminar.
This intensive seminar will introduce climbers to the techniques required for safe glacier travel and rescue. Techniques needed for climbing the Northwest Volcanoes such as Mt. Rainer as well as Mt. McKinley.
From our base camp we will venture to the ice falls and seracs of the lower Hotlum Glacier where we will spend two days teaching roped team travel, team self arrest, crampon technique, technical ice climbing (front pointing); use and placement of anchors in snow and ice (pickets, bollards, flukes, ice screws), crevasse self-rescue, crevasse rescue systems ( 'C' and 'Z' pulley systems), ascending fixed lines, and glacier route finding.
* Dates 2007:
- June: 8-10
- July: 1-3 (4th of July)
- August: 3-5
- September: 1-3 (Labor Day), 14-16
- October: 6-8
* Duration: 3 days.
* Experience Level: Hiking and Backpacking experience and Good physical condition required, basic rock or rope skills recommended.
* Additional dates maybe available by arrangement with 3 or more.
