And then there's Canterbury, full of pilgrim history, packed with museums and vibrant with its maze of intriguing side streets.

Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive Dover. Arrive at Dover Ferry Port anytime to suit you and we will meet you so you have no need to bring your car. We will transfer you to your cosy hotel in a nearby village that sits on top of the cliffs.

Day 2: Dover to Sandwich - 10 miles (16 km). Your host will meet you after breakfast with your cycling equipment and run through your tour itinerary. Then you are off - to freewheel down to the characterful old ports of Deal and Sandwich. Cycle adjacent to the shore, take in the castles, and explore the fascinating history of these Cinque port towns. Your overnight stop is an old inn in the heart of beautiful Sandwich.

Day 3: Sandwich to Canterbury - 17 miles (27 km). Pedal through orchards and pretty villages today and you will discover wonderful pubs and Roman antiquities. Your route leads you traffic free into the heart of Canterbury where your hotel awaits you.

Day 4: Canterbury to Herne Bay - 13 miles (21 km). Take a long morning to explore this astounding heritage city with its magnificent cathedral, and many museums. Then pedal along the old Crab and Winkle railway line to Whistable and savor its famous oysters. There's a bustling harbor here and some cute shops to explore too. The final few miles today are magical - right beside the sea.

Day 5: Herne Bay to Broadstairs - 14 miles (22 km). This is idyllic safe cycling along the seashore and the dramatic chalk cliffs. There are sandy beaches, a Roman Fort and a long sea wall for you to ride along. As you arrive in Broadstairs with its seven lovely bays you discover an unspoilt town with a traditional sweet shop and fisherman's cottages. We love our hotel choice here which faces the sea.

Day 6: Broadstairs to Deal - 15 miles (24 km). Today is a leisurely ride packed with variety. Cycle along the cliffs and take in Ramsgate with its enticing mix of maritime history and Royal harbor. Then head inland through tiny hamlets and ride the old cycle path taken by the miners on their way to the former coal pits. Your journey ends in Deal, beside the sea with a last chance to enjoy the pier and explore the castle.

Day 7: Depart Deal. Just a short distance from Dover, Deal has frequent trains to the ferry port or to Canterbury and London.
