Explore one of the areas spectacular caves with us leading the way. This trip is not for people that are claustrophobic. You will go deep into the ground exploring the underworld. You will have to go through some very small holes to get to large underground rooms.
We will take you to underground streams and waterfalls. You will see some spectacular rock formations. You will go over the Waterfall, go to the Lake, go to the Scenic over look, and go down the Funnel.
Warning: one pinch (hole) is small (25" by 15") most people will fit it is not as small as it looks.
The caves will be 50 degrees once we enter and you will get wet and muddy.
SUGGESTED CLOTHING: (Vermont’s caves are cold and wet, expect temperatures in the 50’s)
- Cotton Products-Are highly discouraged. They soak up water and steal heat from body.
- Gloves-Leather or rubber works best.
- Footwear - Boots should be sturdy and provide good traction. Wool socks are recommended.
- Outer Layer-Water resistant and durable for the cave environment, nylon coveralls work well.
- Polypropylene - Is highly recommend for under the outer layer.
- Knee and Elbow Pads-Can not be recommend enough for Vermont.
Equipment we provide:
- Helmet approved hard hat with a chinstrap and a light source mounted on it. This allows your hands to be free for climbs and crawls.
- Back Up Lights-At least two more other then your helmet. Every caver should carry at least three sources of light. A bulb or light could malfunction.
- Extra Batteries-Always plan to be in cave twice as long as you expect.
- Hand Line-A twenty-foot section of webbing or climbing rope works best. A second piece is recommended with carabineers.
- Small First Aid Kit-Should include and not be limited to; candles, heat pack, space blanket, whistle, aspirin, energy bars, band aids, triangle bandage, and matches in a waterproof container.
- Cave Pack-Should be big enough for your first aid kit, an extra layer of clothing, food, and water.
DANGERS IN CAVING:
- Drugs and Alcohol - Should never be taken before or in a cave. Alcohol lowers your body temperature.
- Hypothermia-Can kill people caused by being wet and cold, when body core temperature falls below 98.6 degrees. Very Serious in Vermont!
