The Caucasian ridge stretches for 1200 km from East to West, from the Black sea to the Caspian. Its width reaches 180 km. The chain separates Russia from the Caucasian region.The Greater Caucasus is traditionally divided into three regions: West Caucasus, Central and East Caucasus.
The borders of these territories go along meridians that cross mt. Elbrus (5642 m) in the West and Kazbek (5033 m). It is between these two giants that the major part of the most beautiful mountains lies.
The central valley along which flows the river Baksan has many side valleys, leading to the most famous and beautiful peaks of the Caucasus, such as Donguz-Orun (4492 m), magnificent ridges of Shkhelda (4300 m), Tchatyn (4368 m) with the well-known «rhomb», the legendary Ushba (4710 m) and of course mt. Elbrus (5642 m), the highest summit of the Caucasus.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival to Mineralnie Vody, transfer to Adyrsu Valley, Ullu Tau Camp. Refuge. D
Day 2: Acclimatisation around trip. B, L, D
Days 3-6: Depending on the weather and snow conditions following tours are planned:
- Trek to Mestia Hut
- Zimniy Peak, 3466 m
- Katia Peak, 4010 m
- Koiavganaush Pass 3500 m. B, L, D
Day 7: Transfer to Baksan Valley, Elba hotel. Relax day. B, L, D
Day 8: Transfer to Cheget station. Lift up to Cheget Peak, Climb 3600m, back to Terskol. B, L, D
Day 9: Transfer to Azau lift station, 2440 m. Lift up to Barrels Refuge, 3780 m. Barrels. B, L, D
Day 10: Acclimatization climb to Pastukhov rocks. B, L, D
Day 11: Summit day. B, L, D
Day 12: Spare day for summit. Descent to Baksan Valley, Elba hotel. B, L, D
Day 13: Transfer to Shkhelda Camp. The “Shkhelda smile” hike. B, L, D
Day 14: Transfer to Piatygorsk. Dinner at café. B, L
Day 15: Transfer to airport. Departure flight. B
