Your Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival Kolkata On reaching Kolkata you are welcomed by our travel representative who takes you to the hotel for check in and a traditional welcome. After some rest you are taken for a half day city sight seeing tour. - Kali Temple of Kalighat, Mother Teressa (optional), Birla Temple, Victoria Memorial and Down Town area, St. Pauls Cathedral, St. Johns' Church. Stay Overnight at the hotel. Day 2: Kolkata Enjoy the full day exploring Kolkata. The morning starts with a visit to the flower market and then to Howrah bridge. Then our guide takes you to Writers' building, Victoria Memorial and the Governor's house. After those heritage buildings visit Kumartooli to see the typical Bengal Pottery being made. Then a visit to the Bengali sweet making centre, Jorasanko (Rabindranath Tagore's House), Marble Palace, Collage Street, Kolkata University, Indian Museum. Stay overnight at the hotel. Day 3: Kolkata - Sunderban A drive to Basanti and board the boat for the Sundarban Forest Lodge. Cruise along & see the different islets and flora and fauna of Sunderban. A visit to the Sunderban national park is also on the cards. Overnight would be at West Bengal Tourist Lodge. Day 4: Kolkata After cruising along the deltas and birdwatching, our guide takes you back to Kolkata in the evening. Stroll a bit in the local markets to unwind. Stay overnight at Kolkata. Day 5: Vishnupur The guide would take you to a drive to the Terracota Town - Vishnupur, via Jayrambati, Kamarpukur (Native village of Ramakrishna). At Vishnupur visit the famous terracotta temples like Jor-Bangla, Shyamrai, Rashmancha, old palaces, Baluchori silk weaving centre, Conchshell work centre, Dasavatar playing card making centre. Then savour lunch at Vishnupur Tourist Lodge. Then later proceed to Panchmura village for Terracota work centre. Overnight at Vishnupur. Day 6: Shantiniketan Enjoy the guided tour to Shantiniketan enroute Kenduli & Joydev. At Shantiniketan visit Vishwa Bharati University, Kalabavan & Museum, later visit Shantal (Tribal) village to enjoy the Shantal musical dance performance & Baul (Ballad Singer of Bengal ) song and dance performance at the Baul village. Shantiniketan " The abode of Peace" , an open air school in harmony with nature founded by Noble Laureate Poet Rabindranath Tagore's father Shri Debendra Nath Tagore, later which was promoted by Rabindranath Tagore and presently known as Vishwa Bharati University, Rabindra Bhawan - a museum of Tagore Memorabilia, Uttarayan - a complex of five houses in different architechtural style, Sriniketan - a rural development center are some of the major attractions. Shantiniketan is also the home of another Noble Laureate Economist Prof. Amartya Sen. Overnight at Shantiniketan. Day 7: Berhampur Leave the lodge in time and get driven to Murshidabad and enjoy sight seeing at Murshidabad, the old capital of Bengal intimately related to event that changed the history of India after the Battle of Plassey in 1757. It is rich in historical relics like Hazariduari Palace, Katra Mosque, Imambara etc. Overnight at Berhampur. Day 8: Malda Our travel representative takes you to Malda, once known as English Bazar. Visit Gaur, famous for Dakhil Darwaza, Lukochuri Darwaza, Barasona Mosque, Loton Mosque & many more sites. Gaur has a typical mix of Buddhist, Hindu, Islamic & Bengal Architecture, developed during early Islamic period of Bengal 14th to 15th century. You can also find few architectural remains of 9th and 10th century of Pala Period. Then you will be taken to Pandua, famous for its typical Islamic & Buddhist Architecture. The most important site of Pandua is Adina Mosque. Overnight stay at Malda. Day 9: Darjeeling The travel guide will take you to Siliguri to visit Monastic Architectural. A drive to Darjeeling via Mirik and you can enjoy the vast tea gardens while you glide in clouds. Overnight at Darjeeling Day 10: Darjeeling You will have to get up early in the morning to enjoy the amazing sunrise effect on the Mt. Kanchendzonga, at Tiger Hill. Visit Ghoom Monastery, Batasia Loop, Rock Garden, Refugee center, Tea Gardens & other places of interest in Darjeeling. Stay overnight in Darjeeling. Day 11: Gangtok The travel representative will take you towards Gangtok. Visit the hill architectural sites en route to Gangtok with an unending rows of tea gardens of Bengal. Overnight at Gangtok Day 12: Gangtok In the morning proceed for an excursion to Tschangu Lake. One of the most breath taking sights in Sikkim. It is frozen in winters. Overnight at Gangtok Day 13: Gangtok The guide will take you on a morning city tour of Gangtok and on an excursion to Rumtek Monastery. Overnight stay is scheduled at the hotel. Day 14: Siliguri After the leisurely breakfast you will be driven to Siliguri and your journey will end at Bagdogra Notes:
