Closer to the Greater Himalayan and Zanskar range lays the captivating state of Himachal Pradesh. With its varying beauty that is adorned by lush river valleys, snow – capped peaks, fruit laden orchards and gurgling streams, Himachal Pradesh has become a prime destination for all the charlatans who love trekking. There are four mountain ranges running almost parallel to one another that create charming valleys and passes that becomes very much suitable for trekking. There are umpteen passes on these ranges which connects various valleys together making them into good trekking routes for all types of trekkers. There are about two dozen passes on the Dhauladhar, a dozen over the Pirpanjal range and 8-10 such passes over the Great Himalayan range to cross over to the Zanskar valley. The mountain range makes the climate of Himachal Pradesh extremely cold. Majority of trekking routes fall in the regions that are perennially cold.
Trekking Requisites Trekking in Himachal Pradesh requires a lot of preparation as the climate here too cold and one need to have adequate woolen clothing to brave the cold wintry climate. For moderate treks the best season is from June to October. It is generally suggested to avoid trekking in winters.
