14-day voyage includes 10-11 days kayaking.
Grade: Moderate +. Dramatic archipelagos and fjords, polar mountains and glaciers feature in this remarkable voyage into the Arctic Circle. Using our mother-ship, the Polar Pioneer, as a floating base camp we move northward each night to ever-longer daylight, finally reaching Spitsbergen, the land of the polar bear and the midnight sun. From Bergen we sail along Norway’s mountainous coastline. Towering cliffs, charming fishing villages and some of the world’s largest seabird colonies teeming with gannets, fulmars, arctic terns and puffins. We cross the Arctic Circle, keeping watch for pods of whales and continue to Bear Island with its wild coastline and prolific bird life. Our final destination, Spitsbergen, is the High Arctic. Subtle pastel hues, 24 hour daylight, flowering tundra, glaciers and stunning mountain landscapes are home to reindeer, fox, walrus, whales, large bird colonies and the polar bear.
