Day 1: Arrive Guatemala

Fly into Guatemala City where you will be met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: Petexbatun Lake (B,L,D)

This ancient Mayan site contains some of the most ornate & well preserved carved stelae in Guatemala. After a steep, vigorous climb through a Ceiba tree forest to the ruins, your guide shares his insight on the region, providing you with the latest findings and conclusions about Ceibal. When you are ready, continue by river to your rainforest lodge on the shores of Lake Petexbatun.

Day 3: Aguateca (B,L,D)

Breakfast is followed with a trip to the lesser visited and unique site at Aguateca. This is site is unusual in that it contains the only known bridge formed in Maya civilization and is surrounded by a natural moat fortification formed by a fault line. Guests can explore the natural fault as well as a small selection of restored monuments and some intricate carvings. For lunch, feast on freshly caught seafood as you savor the breathtaking views of Petexbatun lagoon from the deck of Chiminos Lodge. After lunch, explore the lagoon by canoe or boat up the nearby river to watch the Moreletti Crocodiles that bask along its banks.

Day 4: Chiminos Lodge - Flores (B,L)

Wake to the sounds of parrots, toucans, and the primal roar of nearby howler monkeys. The morning is yours to take a dip in the lagoon off the floating dock, or explore the miles of jungle trails surrounding Chiminos Lodge with your naturalist guide. After a filling three course lunch, we'll take a boat back to Sayaxche and then travel onwards to Flores for the night.

Day 5: Yaxha (B,L)

Today guests explore the atmospheric lakeside site of Yaxha. Wonderful views of the rainforest canopy await travelers atop the main temples. This site may be familiar to some visitors -- it is where "Survivor Guatemala" was filmed.

Day 6: Tikal (B,L)

Today travelers explore the amazing Maya Temple site at Tikal. Here, commanding Maya temples rise above the jungle canopy, while monkeys and tropical birds thrive in the surrounding rainforest. Your guide will share theories on Tikal’s mysterious past as you weave your way through the maze of more than 3,000 structures that make up this famous Maya site.
