Schotia Safaris is the oldest private game viewing reserve in the Eastern Cape, bordering the eastern side of Addo Elephant National Park. This malaria free reserve is probably the most densely stocked reserve in Africa, and with over 40 mammal species and approximately 2000 animals, can offer consistently good game viewing throughout the year. Schotia was the first reserve in the Cape Province to have free roaming lions and we can almost guarantee sightings of these magnificent animals on every Tooth & Claw game drive.
At Addo Elephant Back Safari’s you can appreciate nature from an elephant's perspective. Walking besides these gentle giants will allow you to observe the elephant's habits in their natural surroundings. This safari experience is about learning and becoming familiar with one of Africa's most stately, intelligent mammals - the African Elephant. It is an adventure of relaxed interaction with the elephants, enjoying the beauty of the area and of getting acquainted with these gentle giants in a meaningful way. Standing between them, surrounded by them, being touched by them, scented by them, being nudged and gently pushed at by them, feeling their curiosity and their trust, is to feel a oneness at an emotional and visceral level which is immensely elevating and yet, somehow, disquieting. There is a sense of reaching back, in some strange way to common origins and a shared heritage. You will take away memories that will stay with you forever.
Day 1: Addo Schotia Safaris
You will collect your vehicle from the airport and drive yourself to Schotia Safaris, close to Addo Elephant Park. Check in for the afternoon and experience some of the best game viewing the Eastern Cape can offer. Relax over dinner and enjoy our delicious safari cuisine, knowing that after coffee around the fire your ranger will take you for a short night drive en-route to your lodge where you will be lulled to sleep by the night sounds of the African bush.
Day 2: Addo Schotia Safaris
Awake to the sound of birds and have a cup of tea or coffee before your ranger takes you on a morning drive. After a hearty breakfast you change vehicles and it's off to Addo Elephant National Park for a Addo Tour. The morning is spent searching for, and viewing elephants in an area containing the world's most dense elephant population. We eat a wholesome lunch at a local farmstall restaurant before returning to the reserve. A second afternoon / evening safari will give you another chance to take more photos, see different animals or just relax and watch the animals' behaviour. Another sumptuous dinner is followed by your second night in the bush.
Day 3: Addo
Awake to the sound of birds and have a cup of tea or coffee before your ranger takes you on a morning drive. During this drive you can search for any of the animals you did not see on previous drives, or look at some of the smaller nature details so often missed. After a delicious breakfast you return to our reception area where we wave goodbye and you continue on to Addo Elephant Back Safaris for an Elephant Encounter, unprecedented. Walks with the elephants through bush, ravines and forests. The walk is not strenuous and at an enjoyable pace. Walks will allow the guests to observe the elephant’s habits in their natural surroundings. Then enjoy the thrill of riding these gentle giants to their favorite waterhole to watch them swim and make the most of the mud. Here you will be able to relax at the waterhole
By afternoon, you will head back to Port Elizabeth to return the vehicle.
