From Nairobi we head to the Great Rift Valley, where the two lakes Naivasha and Nakuru are home to a million flamingos and an incredible variety of other birds and wildlife including the endangered rhino and elusive leopard. We enter Tanzania by the beautiful shores of Lake Victoria, and if any game proved elusive in Kenya it is sure to be seen in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. An optional daywalk on Kilimanjaro gives a chance to get above the treeline and glimpse its veiled peak, the highest in Africa. The spice island of Zanzibar is a charming tropical backwater, with dazzling and undeveloped Indian Ocean beaches which offer a relaxing way to end a fascinating tour.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Start Nairobi; transfer to Lake Naivasha, with time to enjoy the lake.
Day 2: Optional boat trip on the lake; drive to Kembu.
Day 3: Full day in Nakuru N.P. with its huge flamingo population.
Day 4: Enter Tanzania and camp at Musoma on Lake Victoria.
Day 5: Into the Serengeti, game drives and camp at Seronera.
Day 6: More time in the Serengeti then drive to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater.
Day 7: Game drive in Landrovers on the crater floor, then drive along the Rift Valley escarpment, with views of Lake Manyara, to Arusha.
Day 8: Optional camel safari or walk to a Masaai village; short drive to Marangu.
Day 9: Optional daywalk on Kilimanjaro or a day relaxing.
Days 10-13: Through the sisal plantations to Korogwe and on to Dar-es-Salaam.
Day 14: Take the ferry to Zanzibar, then four days on this beautiful island. Explore the old Stone Town and enjoy the spectacular Indian Ocean beaches.
Day 15: End. Zanzibar
- Mode of travel: A semi-participatory camping safari in specialist overland vehicle. Ferry to Zanzibar.
