The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is an ideal destination for a one-week cycling break. Highlights include the spectacular 'rose-red' city of Petra, the ancient site of Mount Nebo and the Byzantine mosaics at Madaba. Away from the temples and monuments it isn't all desert scenery. Our ride takes us through ancient olive groves and quiet villages, where we meet the extraordinary Bedouin people, whose hospitality has quenched many an explorer's thirst. There is also plenty of time to relax and unwind, with the opportunity to float in the Dead Sea and snorkel in the Red Sea. Most relaxing of all, perhaps, is the night spent in Wadi Rum, the former desert headquarters of Lawrence of Arabia. Here the solitude, the majestic desert scenery, and incredible night skies ensure a memorable evening of star gazing.
