The well trodden path through Ethiopia's famous and fascinating historical places takes you through a scenic, magnificent world of fairy tale names, such as Lalibela, Gondar , Axum and Bahir Dar.
Historic North is accessible by road and by air throughout the year. Daily flights connect besides Addis Ababa the four historical sites to each other. Traveling the route by plane, by car or both will offer you a glimpse into a truly remarkable past.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Fly to Bahir Dar and after check-in to hotel depart by boat over Lake Tana to visit the old island monasteries of Ura Kidane-Mihret, Azwa Mariam and Kebran Gabriel. Overnight hotel.
Day 2: AM excursion to Blue Nile Falls and if interested you may descend to the base of the falls and cross Nile River by small motor boat. PM visit Bahir Dar town's open market, Nile Outlet and sunset viewing on Lake Tana. Overnight hotel.
Day 3: Fly to Gondar and visit 17th century castles, Debre Berhane Selassie Church, Fasiledese's Bathing Pool, abbey of 18th century Empress Mentewab and Felasha (Black Jews) Village. Overnight hotel.
Day 4: Full day excursion to Simien Mountains National Park, site of UNESCO’S World Heritage and contains some of the most dramatic scenery in Africa. Overnight hotel.
Day 5: Fly to Lalibela and whole day explore the incredible eleven 13th century rock hewn churches carved into the rugged mountainsides. Overnight hotel.
Day 6: AM mule ride to Asheton Mariam to visit a high altitude church and PM visit more of the rock-churches and villages in Lalibela town. Overnight hotel.
Day 7: Fly to Axum and visit Stele (Obelisk) Fields, 6th century Kings Bazen & Kaleb underground tombs, King Ezana's Park, Tsion Mariam Church and ruins of Queen Sheba Palace. Overnight hotel.
Day 8: Full day excursion to visit the most ancient Pre-Christian temple at Yeha and 6th century Debre Damo Monastery notable for its cliff top position. Overnight hotel.
Day 9: Fly back to Addis Ababa and transfer to hotel.
