A bus drive to Dhunche (105 Km), north east of Kathmandu, brings you to the starting point of this spectacular Langtang trek to the awesome Langtang valley region of central Nepal (North of Kathmandu).

Moving up a gentle gradient, you pass along the dramatic ridges, through villages inhabited by the Tibetan, Tamang and Sherpa people, into lush forest of Rhododendron, conifers and oak, and passed mountain cattle grazing on rich alpine pastures under the watchful eyes of their herders.

Breathtaking Mountain views immerge on your ascent as the vegetation becomes sparser and the conditions more challenging. Once you enter the mail Langtang valley from Ghora Tabala you will find the fluttering Buddies prayer flags in the main trails, brightly painted chortens, Mani walls ( carved Tibetan mantra Om Mani Padme Hum!) and yak herders welcome you to the land of these high mountain people.

Langtang Lirung, Langshisa, Ganjala Peaks proudly show above as you head for the main Langtang and Kanjing trail. This adventure takes you off the bitten track into the valley of a hardy, untouched people. You will have enough time to explore and relax in Kathmandu.

Special trip: Shamanism and a Full Moon Festival at 4312 mtr (Holy Shiva's Lake Gosain Kunda). This year the festival is on August 28th. To participate in this festival you have to arrive to Kathmandu on 23rd of August.

Fully supported camping Trekking or tea house trek, Clean-up campaign, appreciation of culture and viewing shamanism rituals at Lake Gosainkunda Shamans ("Dhami") come from all over Nepal arrive to the lake and on full moon night, there is much dancing and singing.

This day is considered holy by the shamans whereby apprentices or "Jhankris" graduate into full shamans. The full moon of the month of Shrawan (July - August), the day when this festival is observed is considered sacred all over Nepal and is celebrated in different manner by various groups of people.

Throughout the Kingdom, the "Dagadhari" (or those who wear the "Janai" or sacred thread on their bodies) change the "Janai" after having a haircut and a ritual bath on the occasion of Janai Purnima, also known as "Rishi Tarpani". This festival observed by the Hindus, especially of the Shaiva sect, on the full moon of August is also popularly known as "Gunhu Punhi" in the Newar community.

According to time honoured tradition, people receive the "Rakshya Bandhan" thread tied around the wrist. The yellow thread is purified by the chanting of Mantras by Brahmins as a symbol of protection from fear and disease. They also observe the occasion as "Kwati Purnima".

On this day, thousands of devotees worship Lord Shiva at Pashupatinath in Kathmandu and at Kumbheswor in Lalitpur and take holy dips in ponds and lakes. Also we have options for you to choose Bridim and Gatlang ( Kerung valley) home stay trek which is newly introduced.

Tibet tour extensions: This (Monsoon) is the time of year when visits to Tibet are best. Doing this trek at the end of a long holiday in Nepal could mean visiting Lake Manasarovar near Mt. Kailash in Tibet for the Saka Dawa Festival in the June Full Moon, going to Bhutan to appreciate the monsoon lushness of the forests there and then topping it with this shamanism festival in August.
