We touch down in Reykjavik, Iceland, the capital city which houses well over half the population of the country, and spend some time touring the area, including a visit to the remarkable Blue Lagoon, located in the lunar-like landscape of a lava field. We also enjoy leisure time for independent exploration in Reykjavik before we board our ice-strengthened vessel and cast off toward the oldest geological region in Iceland, the Isafjordur Peninsula.
En route, we cruise past shimmering Ice Age glaciers and may get to see some whales, and if not, there'll certainly be a lot more opportunities along the way! We land a couple of times on our journey to take in the sights of a region teeming with all kinds of wildlife, including a stop at the breathtaking volcanic island of Jan Mayen, then continue on to see if we can catch a glimpse of polar bears in the mountain-fringed region of Spitsbergen. We reach the world's most northerly railway and the world's most northerly settlement, and, after a thorough exploration of the Arctic region and its bounties, we end our tour in Oslo, Norway.
