Vibrant Buenos Aires is our first port of call on this 34-day adventure extravaganza and we take a few days to explore cultural monuments and colonial sights in and around the Plaza de Mayo, before making headway for Patagonia, a region world-famous for its natural splendor and teeming wildlife. Jaw-dropping sandstone-colored mountains, glistening glaciers and pristine lakes fringed by lush forest serve as the backdrop as we make our way down to the world's southernmost city, Ushuaia. After spending ample time on the Argentinean side of Patagonia soaking in the wondrous sights and enjoying the myriad species of animal and plant life, we head over to sample some of the highlights in Chile.
Visiting museums, important historic sites and, of course, a few of the world-famous Chilean wineries, we follow the path of the breathtaking Andes southwards from Santiago until we reach arguably the finest national park in all of South America at Torres del Paine. Sailing in the Chilean fjords and around islands boasting spectacular scenery is definitely one of the high points on this leg of the tour, after which we return inland to browse the colourful markets of quaint villages to mingle with the locals. Along with remarkable pre-Columbian artifacts, bizarre lunar landscapes and gurgling super-heated water in frozen ground, we visit the famous stone statues (Maoi) on Easter Island and return to Santiago to end our tour.
