From Kuwait City's extensive collection of Islamic art and centuries-old houses, we head to Bahrain, 'The Pearl of the Arabian Gulf', to find out for ourselves how it earns its nickname. An important link on trade routes over 5,000 years ago, Bahrain is rich in history and has no shortage of historic site and artifact; a highlight of our exploration of this region is a visit to the many marketplaces, or souks, where we mingle with the locals and experience traditional lives of the friendly peoples. Traveling on to Qatar, we take time to browse in yet more souks and see the distinctive traditional seafaring vessels at the harbor and from there, it's on to the UAE and the ultra-modern capital of Abu Dhabi.
As we travel through the traditional villages and futuristic cities in the UAE, we enjoy memorable sceneries of jagged mountains fringing deserted white beaches whose shores are lapped by the bluest of azure seas and lush, green oases amid the barren beauty of desertscapes, all the while learning about the region's tribal past and staring in wonderment at sites that date back thousands of years. Yemen is our final destination on this unforgettable tour and here we find some of the most dramatic sceneries on Earth, ancient tombs, Biblical towns and exquisite architecture that is to be found nowhere else in the world.
