Once an uninhabited swampland, Nairobi grew into a modern, cosmopolitan capital with the development of the railway and it is in this bustling city that displays a pleasant blend of colonial British and modern and traditional African influences that our 11-day tour of Kenya and Tanzania begins. We spend much of our time admiring the world-famous natural bounties of East Africa: we see giraffes, large herds of roaming elephants covered in red dust, prides of lions, tribes of monkeys and hundreds of species of birds on the plains and in the thick, primeval forests of Kenya; and in Tanzania, we find wildebeest, gazelles, zebras, hippos and the ‘Big Five’ in nature reserves and in the ultimate safari destination - Serengeti.
We come across the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro, the UNESCO Heritage-designated Ngorongoro Crater and excavation sites that bear evidence of prehistoric habitats of some of the earliest species of hominids as we travel through highly picturesque landscapes in these two magical African destinations.
