On this trip we explore the former royal capital Luang Prabang, nestled in the valleys of the mountainous north. The capital Vientiane is ideal for exploring by foot or bicycle. We also embark on an exciting trek through the Phuo Khao Khouay National Park Area, one of Lao most beautiful natural reserves and home to the rare wild elephants.
Tour Itinerary:
Day 1: Vientiane. This afternoon there will be a tour of Vientiane. Our tour includes visits to the major temples of Vat Sisaket, Vat Phrakeo and the impressive That Luang Stupa, the country's most important monument. We will also see the Arch of Triumph, the National Museum and the main market. We take a flight to Luang Prabang in the afternoon. Following the meal you can enjoy an evening stroll along the banks of the Mekong River.
Day 2: Vientiane - Luang Prabang. Luang Prabang is best known for its beautiful scenery and high numbers of ancient temples. This morning we have an excursion by boat on the Mekong River to the holy caves of Pak Ou. In the afternoon we discover more about this enthralling town visiting Vat Xieng Thong, the Golden City monastery and the Royal Palace Museum.
Day 3: Luang Prabang - Vientiane. This morning is at your leisure in Luang Prabang before transferring to the airport for our short flight south to Vientiane.
Day 4: Vientiane - Ba Na Village Trek. We drive south to the Phou Khao Khouay National Protected Area to set out on a fascinating 6 six hour trek of the area. We encounter the villages of the lowland Lao and if were very lucky we may even spot a rare wild elephant. This evening we are guests in Ba Na village in a basic, traditional home stay built on stilts.
Day 5: Ba Na Village Trek - Vientiane. For those that wish there is the chance to go for a short walk around the village in search of more wildlife. We then drive to some nearby waterfalls and trek for approximately 2hours. Following lunch we return to the capital. The remainder of the day is free to explore the city.
Day 6: Depart Vientiane. Following breakfast there will be a transfer waiting to take you to Wattay International airport for your flight out of Laos.
Recommend Bringing: a small, lightweight pack for cameras, spare film, drinking water and comfortable walking shoes.
