An ancient, romantic town reminiscent of Vienna and Prague, albeit considerably smaller, Ljubljana is Slovenia's capital city and our first destination on this tour of discovery in Adriatica. We ascend to the highest point of the city to check out the 16th century castle and admire the beautiful plazas, squares and unique bridges that dot the town. Photo-worthy architecture lies around every corner and tells fascinating stories of the country's history and we make sure we have enough time to browse the stalls at the local outdoor markets, an experience without which a tour to Ljubljana would be incomplete.
Via Opatija, the oldest and one of the most popular Croatian resorts on the Gulf on Kvarner, we head to the Istrian Peninsula, where we enjoy touring ancient Roman amphitheaters, forums and citadels. In Zagreb, Croatia's capital, we are treated to the sights and sounds of a city that displays a unique blend of Eastern and Western European influences and then it's on to the Plitvice Lakes for spectacular vistas of 16 lakes, each at a different level, joining together in cascading waterfalls. The historic town of Zadar was once the capital of Byzantine Dalmatia and offers no end of fascinating site and our walking tours through Split and Hvar prove equally rewarding with their narrow streets, beautiful palaces, and majestic cathedrals. There's no better end to any tour than spending time in Dubrovnik, often referred to as 'the pearl of the Adriatic'.
