Amman, the modern yet ancient capital city of Jordan, is our entry point on this memorable eight-day tour of a country brimming with Biblical and historic sites and one whose urban centers that are among the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. We see marvelous stone amphitheaters and striking temples in Jerash, once a wealthy city that is today considered one of the most important and best-preserved of all Roman sites, before making headway for the Jordanian Desert, where we find desert palaces with unique frescoes and the site used by Lawrence of Arabia during his campaigns fighting the Turks.
Traveling past Byzantine churches and along the shores of the Dead Sea, we head to the hidden valley of Petra, 'the rose red city half as old as time' and one of the highlights of our tour. Perhaps the most impressive archaeological site in the Middle East, Petra boasts attractions that rival the temples and pyramids of Egypt in grandeur and promises remarkable photo opportunities by the dozen. The gold-sand beaches on the banks of the Red Sea provide the most idyllic of settings in which to relax and our cultural exploration of the area includes mingling with Bedouin tribesmen - the nomadic herdsmen of the desert who made up Lawrence of Arabia's army.
