Egypt, a country that numbers among the most mysterious and alluring destinations on the planet and which has drawn travelers since long before the days of Christ, is our destination for this 18-day adventure to discover the secrets and legacies of one of the most influential ancient civilizations in history. We stroll the cobblestone streets of Cairo and take comprehensive tours of its museums, gape in awe at the majestic Great Pyramids and the Sphinx, relax amid the picturesque sceneries of Aswan, the country's most beautiful town, and get the chance for up-close inspection of the insides of temples and pyramids as we learn about the days of pharaohs and their ancient gods.
Lending an element of authenticity to our trip, we enjoy an exciting camel trek across the desert, a donkey ride along the astonishing Valley of the Kings and a serene cruise down the Nile in a lateen-sail wooden felucca - a traditional vessel that has been a major mode of transport in Egypt for centuries. The final leg of our tour is spent in the Western Desert of the Great Sahara, where we travel through diverse sceneries, familiarize ourselves with the cultures and lifestyles of the peoples of desert oases and see a side of Egypt often overlooked by visitors.
