Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Jayapura - Arrival
Arrive at Sentani airport of Jayapura, meet and transfer by car in 5 minutes drive to Sentani Indah Hotel or similar Hotel for dinner and overnight stay. Today is free program.

Day 2: Jayapura - Wamena
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight depart to Wamena. Arrive at Wamena airport meet and transfer to Baliem Pilamo Hotel. Afterwards visiting the local market, hanging bridge and museum. After lunch at a local restaurant drive within an hour to Jiwika to see the old mummy of Mabel's family at Sumpaima village and explore the villages surrounding. Late afternoon drive back to Wamena, dinner and overnight stay at Baliem Pilamo Hotel or similar hotel.

Day 3: Wamena - Yaniruma (Koroway Tribe)
After breakfast by a small chartered aircraft to Yaniruma in the south lowland of Irian Jaya. After 2 hours flight over the mountain, you will arrive at Yaniruma, walk to Missionary guest house at the end of airstrip for your accommodation. The rest of the day explore the village and experience the isolated life of Korowai and Kombai tribes who live in the tree houses couple years ago. Your guide will arrange porters and other trip’s preparations in the next day into the interior.

Day 4: Yaniruma – Manggemahe
Trekking through the swamps. From Yaniruma, start your trekking in Korowai country to Manggemahe village up on Dairam Kabur river for about 4-5 hours. The trail could be wet and muddy, you will encounter some slippery bridge on creeks.

We mostly walk under the canopy of dense tropic rain forest but we sometimes walk through the area which is hot and very humid (95 %). This vast lowland of south Papua. Korowai built their house individually high on the top the trees avoiding both mosquito and enemy’s attack. Arrive at Manggemahe village in the afternoon accommodation at tent at the bible teacher’s house.

Day 5: Manggemahe – Yafofla
Trekking through the swamps. Trekking further up to the village of Yafofla about 4 hours, from where you will walk into the interior to see the Korowai Batu who lives deep into the jungle without any influence from out side world. Arrive in the afternoon in Yafofla, we will talk the people and ask them information about our next trip to the interior.

We will also know from them if there is any feast take place while we are in the interior. Korowai use to have a sago Grub Feast at least once every 2 years. The feast will hosted by local chief and continue to the next chief of the other clans. We sometimes participate in this interesting event upon their agreement. Accommodation at tent or at the Bible Teacher’s House in Yafofla.

Day 6: Yafofla – Mahe
Today we will trek to the next place named: “Mahe” for about 5 hours. Mahe is not a village, but a place where a group of Korowai Batu built their houses. We will see some tree houses and mingle with the local people. Accommodation at tent or at shelter or at the Tree house upon invitation.

Day 7: Mahe - People Daily Life Activities
Today we stay and spend whole day with local people (Korowai Batu), to experience and participate in their daily life activities. We may join them the nearby jungle to collect foods, fishing or hunting animals. We will learn few things from them, including how to put on the animal’s trap. Korowai are “Gatherer and Great hunter".

Day 8: Mahe – Sayak
Trekking through the swamps, from Mahe we trek to next place named: Sayak for about 4 hours. Here we will see more than Tree Houses of Korowai Batu and learn more about their life and culture.

Your guide arranges the best way to communicate and interact with local people. We use to have our contact people as our local guide who has been in contact with tribal chief that our visit to the area and people acceptable. In some cases, Korowai Batu don’t like and refused visitors come to their lands

Day 9: Sayak – Yafofla
Trekking through the swamps. Trek for 6 hours back to Yafofla, accommodation at tent or Bible Teacher’s House in Yafofla.

Day 10: Yafofla - Yaniruma
Paddle canoe. Complete your trekking in Korowai, return to Yaniruma down river by paddle canoe for about 3-4 hours. The more current in the river, the more fast you travel. Arrive in Yaniruma. Accommodation at Missionary Guest House.

Day 11: Yaniruma – Wamena
Fly by charter aircraft. Fly back to Wamena, the rest of the day is free. Accommodation with meals at Baliem Pilamo.

Day 12: Wamena - Jayapura
After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the airport for your flight to Jayapura. Arrive at Jayapura airport met by the guide then touring the city and lake Sentani. Lunch at local restaurant. Dinner and overnight at Sentani Indah Hotel or similar.

Day 13: Departure
After breakfast at your hotel, transfer to the airport leaving Jayapura for the next destinations.
