Standard Loire Valley Tour Itinerary:
Saturday
Halfway the afternoon you leave from Gare du Nord in Paris by coach to Plagny. You arrive in the beginning of the evening, meet your tour leader and the crew and settle in. Subsequently dinner will be served aboard.
Sunday:
Cycle trip ca. 50 km. (meium difficulty) From Plagny you go by barge over an aquaduct over the river Allier. After having passed 2 locks (a height of 9 meters), you disembark and cycle to Apremont. You may visit the 12th century castle and its fabulous gardens. The trip ends in La Chapelle-Montlinard.
Monday
Cycle trip ca. 45 km. (some hiils, medium difficulty) First the cycle trip takes you to La Charitee-sur-Loire, an ancient Roman town. Crossing the 16th century stone bridge to the center, you have a splendid view over the town and its Notre Dame church. Then you enter the region of the famous Pouilly Fume, you might want to try some wines Here. Continue to Menetreol, located at the bottom of the Sancerre vineyards,where you'll find the barge.
Tuesday
Cycle trip ca. 45 km. (medium difficulty) First we climb to Sancerre for a visit and then Your cycle ride continues and passes several scenic wine villages. The trip ends in Beaulieu, the stop for the night.
Wednesday
Cycle trip ca. 40 km. (medium difficulty) On this bicycle ride we pass the historic locks of Chatillon-sur-Loire and the aquaduct that will take you over the river Loire later on. After St. Brisson, where you pass a nice castle, you start your way back to the barge, while enjoying the fresh forest air in the Foret de St. Brisson. In the evening you cross the river Loire over the magnificent aquaduct and stay in Briare.
Thursday
Cycle trip ca. 45 km. (medium difficulty) First you have some time to explore Briare. The cycle trip leads to the castle `Pont Chevron' which is picturesquely located at a small lake. Via Ouzouer-sur-Trezee you cross an area with some lakes to the 16th century castle near Bleneau. Your trip ends in the village Rogny-les-Sept-Ecluses, known for its seven historical locks.
Friday
Cycle trip ca. 50 km. (medium difficulty) Today you will cycle to the market in Chatillon-Coligny, from where the trip continues to the castle in La Bussiere. Via Escrignelles the tour ends at the ship in Rogny-les-Sept-Ecluses
Saturday
In the morning time for a walk around Rogny. At 11 AM we depart to go back to Paris Gare du Nord by private coach (arrival mid afternoon)
